Minecraft freezes at sign in
I've installed Minecraft Education Edition on my MacBook Pro and when I opened it for the first time I entered my school assigned email and password, but it wouldn't sign me in. Now every time I try to open the application I get a screen saying, "Sign-in Required: Signing into sbrunvan@umich.edu", which is my school assigned email. However, nothing happens and the app just freezes without ever completing the sign in process. I'm guessing my university doesn't have a Minecraft license, but I can't figure out a way to get it to let me try signing in with a different email.

I am sorry to hear you are having issues logging in. The first thing to try is to login to the device with the email you want to login to Minecraft Education with. It sounds like the device is pulling the login information from the cached information with the email you signed into the device with.
With Chromebooks we are seeing that if users update the google play store to its newest version that the login process for Minecraft Education fails and loops. Once the users reverted the play store back to an earlier build the login process would then go through.
If this is a MAC, what you described is SSO you can disable SSO without launching the game, you will need to navigate to this folder inFinder:
~/Library/Application Support/minecraftpe/games/com.mojang/minecraftpe
open the options.txt file and Command+F to find the linead_use_single_sign_on:1and change it toad_use_single_sign_on:0That should disable the SSO for the next login attempt. Hopefully it won't hang or crash. Let me know your findings.1 -
When i play Minecraft education on my mac it doesn't let me log into the app. It simply just freezes and then I just have to force quit. I have tried to reinstall it many times already but it just seems to not work.

Hey there!
Sorry to hear you are running into some issues with Mac freezing!
Just had a few questions to help us support you further:
1.) Have things worked prior?
2.) Are you on the latest version of Minecraft Education?
3.) Is this a home network or school network?
4.) Is this a commercial account or school managed account?
5.) Do you know any others running into this issue?

Hey there!
You will first need to purchase Minecraft Education with one of these two purchase options depending on your situation:
If you are purchasing commercially please follow this guide: https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360061369812-Purchase-Commercial-Licenses
If you are purchasing for a school please follow this guide: https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360059957051-Purchase-Academic-Licenses-Directly
Then, you can manage your licenses and create the users in Admin Center (admin.microsoft.com) with the help of this guide:
Manage Licenses in the Admin Center – Minecraft Education
Let us know if you have further questions!

Jumping in to say that the latest version freezes a few seconds after being launced on all of our M1 MacBooks on Sequioa. It was working fine a few weeks ago. Can reproduce across our entire fleet. We have Cortex XDR Endpoint protection enforced on all devices which means a Content Filter is enabled at all times and when I disable this on a test device the freezing no longer occurs. Issue is that Cortex doesn't appear to be doing anything to restrict minecraft and is generally pretty loud and provides alert popups when blocking any sort of application or connection, so potentially it is just because there is a Content Filter active that it doesn't cope with. It's strange because all other IT admins I know enforce agents like Cortex XDR so it is not uncommon in Education, so I would expect that this is something the developers are testing against? Is this something that needs to be resolved with a new version or is there detailed guidance on how to ensure Minecraft Education can function with a content filter active?

Hey Carl,
Cortex is one that we have found this issue with. The MacOS Freezing issue tends to occur with certain EDRs, or AVs. However, we have verified that the issue should be resolved in the latest Beta. Minecraft Education Beta program – Minecraft Education and this build should be coming to general release soon (no exact eta at this time).
If you could test the beta on one of your devices, we'd love to confirm if this fix is working for you. Otherwise, we'd like to get a ticket open and get some more details!0
