We are also having this problem in my classroom. With or without MakeCode being opened and coding, the Minecraft Education just crashes (Closes) without any warning. We are operation on Windows 11

    Hey there Amanda,

Sorry you are running into similar issues. It is very odd this issue occurs without MakeCode running as well.

How often does it crash? How consistent does it happen? How many users would you say are affected?

And 明 岩坂 ! Sorry we missed your message!

This to me sounds like an issue the team is aware of which is MakeCode crashing Windows devices. Unfortunately there is no workaround or ETA for a fix at this time, but the team is aware of the issue and working towards a fix. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the patience on this.

Today in our 60 minute period a student using makecode crashed about every 3 minutes for about 20 minutes. It got to the point we had to hard restart the computer because we couldn't close the application. Minecraft Education is installed as an app on our Windows 11 desktop computers. Another student done with work not using makecode crashed 3 different times in about the same span- no warning but just entire app crashes. Sometimes they are starting to see that the mouse freezes so they can't look left or right before it crashes, other times it is without any warning. Out of 19 students today in an hour, almost all the Minecraft Education applications crashed at least once.

In my classroom, students experience crashes while using it. The Minecraft version is all V1.21.06 and Windows11.
1-1. From around November to December 2024
    1) In the case of Student A
       - (November 3) (DELL-PC) Crashed twice.
       - (December 5) (DELL-PC) Crashed three times continuously at intervals of about 5 to 10 minutes.
    2) Student B (December 8) (DELL-PC)
       - Another student also crashed about 30 minutes after starting.
       - This student usually uses it without any issues.
       - After crashing, switching to an HP PC resolved the issue.
       - There are two DELL PCs purchased this year, but it is unclear whether A/B were using the same or different DELL PCs (I don't remember).1-2. December 15
    1) December 14: Set up the DELL-PC according to the equipment manual
       - The render distance was 40, so I changed the settings of the two DELL-PCs to 19 and 20.
    2) December 15 trial session
       - The HP PC, which had not crashed before, crashed.
    3) December 15 during class
       - The DELL-PC, with the render distance changed from 40 to 19, crashed (about 10 minutes after class started). Continued with the HP-PC, which did not crash during the trial session, but it crashed (about 10 minutes later).
       - Continued with a MacBook afterwards, and it did not crash.Render Distance
[Before Change] The render distance was 40.
[After Change] Changed to 19 (could not set it to exactly 20).2. Current Situation
    1) PC Environment
The teacher's device information is as follows:
       - 3 HP PCs (Windows 11)
         Purchased last year
CPU: Intel Core i5 12th Gen
         GPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics
         Memory: 16GB
         Disk: 512GB
       - 3 DELL PCs (Windows 11)
One purchased at the end of last year, two purchased this spring
CPU: Intel Core i5 13th Gen
         GPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics
         Memory: 16GB
         Disk: 512GB2) Situation
       - HP-PC
From last year to October this year, five students used Minecraft on three HP PCs during classes without any crashes.
Therefore, I thought HP PCs would not crash, but today (December 15), two different HP PCs crashed, so it was found that HP PCs can also crash.
         → 2 out of 3 crashed
       - DELL-PC
Crashed even after changing the render distance.
       - MacBook
Worked without crashing for a short time.
Since HP PCs, which did not crash until October this year, also crashed, I have the impression that it might be dependent on the Windows 11 OS version update after November.3. About MakeCode
The student who crashed three times at intervals of 5 to 10 minutes (on December 5) often had the MakeCode screen up.
I thought about resetting, but this student seems to like the MakeCode screen, so I continued as it was.
However, it is unclear if the MakeCode screen was up when it crashed.
Another student also had the MakeCode screen up occasionally, and I remember resetting it. However, it is unclear if the MakeCode screen was up when it crashed as well.

Regarding the above post, I have confirmed the OS information and added additional details.
Both DELL and HP were running Windows 11 24H2.
However, there have been instances where it crashed, albeit less frequently, on 23H2 as well.
I would appreciate it if you could check this!

    Hey there,

Thanks for the additional info. This is sounding like a known issue the dev team is tracking with 24H2. They are investigating, so unfortunately there is no workaround at this time.

However, you could try our Preview build to see if that helps the issue at all:

    https://edusupport.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/23498937165844-Minecraft-Education-Preview-Program

Let us know if you try and how it goes!

I think the mouse freeze problem and the crash problem around programming are both caused by 24H2, but the problem has not yet been resolved.

Today I crashed 8 times in one hour lesson.

Is there any way to downgrade 24H2 to 23H2?

    Hey there,

You are correct, the mouse issue seems to be linked to 24H2. I do not believe there is an easy way to downgrade to 23H2, nor do I believe this would alleviate the issue due to the way Windows updates are done.

I will check with the team if there have been any updates to this issue! Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the patience on this.

    Hi there,

It's important to understand that the combination of frequent crashes and mouse issues makes the product unusable. While it's reasonable for a fix to take a few days or weeks, when it takes months, it results in significant financial losses for companies using Minecraft Education. The responsibility for this lies entirely with Microsoft, which has been unable to properly integrate its own software.

    Hey there Nikita!

Totally understand the frustrations! Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the patience on this.

It does seem like there will be a fix for this rolling out in the near future.

We have been trying the preview and still have not seen any fix to the crashing of the game, freezing, and we are running into more problems because the code projects aren't able to save about 1/4 of the time.

On the main platform - it is crashing and freezing so frequent we are unable to truly utilize our course the way it should be intended.

I will be monitoring this chain. My students are experiencing the same issues. The mouse continues to freeze and they are also experiencing crashes regularly.

  • Henrietta Yabeny

Here to also chime in, we are experiencing the same mouse issues, as well as issues with our world crashing and sometimes unable to load the Makecode window.  Glad to hear these issues are being addressed!  Thank you!

    Hi Danny

    Let me verify one thing.
We also have experienced the sudden crash problem on the Win11 24H2. I will not describe the detail anymore because of the same situation as everyone here.

My question is whether the Dev team find the root cause at this moment or not.

If they already find the root cause, I think we can expect the solution in the near future.
But if not, we can’t expect the solution earlier.

So, in order to know the current status of this issue, please let us know if Dev already find the root cause at this moment.

Furthermore, we found the following article. Do you know this patch will solve the problem of the Minecraft sudden crash?

    https://edusupport.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/33201022766356-What-s-New-in-the-Garden-Awakens-Preview-Beta-v1-21-51

Since it is not described the detail about the stability issue, I am not able to expect the solution of the crash problem by this patch.

    Please clarify.

Thank you for your assistance in advance.
    Kosei

Hey there James, Henrietta and Kosei, have you all tried the Beta/Preview version yet?

Let us know how things go if you do!

    https://edusupport.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4407483028116-Download-Minecraft-Education-Beta

    Hey there Amanda,

Sorry to hear the Beta did not work for you. Could you please share the device specs RAM/ CPU/ Storage Space/ GPU of the device?

Also, if you are interested to send us a video reproduction of the issue, let us know and I can make a ticket for us. I can then share the issue with our test team.

Same goes for everyone else on this thread!

    Hi Danny

I don’t try to check if the preview version solves the problem at this moment. Because we don’t know the exact steps to reproduce the problem.

It looks like you request us to QA of the preview version. What the steps to reproduce is found and QA are not the thing that the customer should do. They are the mission of the technical support and QA teams in the vendor side.

If you guys mention the root cause is found, fixed it and tech support
and QA team verified the behavior, I am willing to check the behavior personally after receiving the steps to reproduce from you guys then.

    Best regards, Kosei

    Hi Danny

We recently had a classroom inquire about the preview version, so we had them download and try it out.
As a result, we confirmed that it works without any issues.
Could you please advise on whether there will be any updates or modifications to the new version based on this?
    Thank you for your assistance.
    Best regards,

Hey Danny! The Preview version seems to fix this crashing issue, at least for me.

Maybe you can focus on deploying the update as soon as possible and then fix the issues it may cause. Working on patching the current version, with the update just around the corner, may not be as efficient. Just a thought.

Anyways, I'm using the Preview version by default for Code Builder tasks. In fact, I've created a pack to hide the debug information that appears on top of the screen. If anyone wants it, let me know

    Hey Nico and Rei!

Glad to hear the Preview version is working without crashes! \o/

Unfortunately there is no ETA for when the Preview fixes will be on the live version at this time, but it is great to hear your feedback that it is working!

Kosei ~ looks like the Preview is working out for others so if you still need a fix for the issue it could be worth a try!

I have the latest beta versions crashing about every minute, but they automatically restart :) (If writing code)

More precisely, I don't know if it's a crash, the game just restarts. I didn't notice any problems with the mouse on the beta version.

We plan to do bulk license purchases ONLY after these issues are fixed. So Microsoft should be interested in fixing this as soon as possible.

    Good news!
The issues caused by Windows 24H2 should be resolved in our latest Minecraft Education Preview: Minecraft Education Preview Program – Minecraft Education

These should come to a full release here in the coming weeks (no exact ETA can be provided at this moment). There should also be a patch for Windows coming in the near future that will also resolve the issue for all users.

Let us know if you have any additional questions, or concerns!
    Thank you!

I didn't find any crashes in Preview, everything looks great, thanks, but as I noted in the ticket, there are 2 much less serious issues that would be cool to fix in this version. We are really looking forward to the release.

    Hello,

This is my second post on this thread. I am a middle school teacher trying to use minecraft eduation coding lessons as a launching point for video game programming. With the game continueing to crash or the similar mouse issues, this makes the tasks assigned to students very frustrating.

I have tried the preview version, but the inability to change the coding world to creative from survival makes it not viable option.

Please talk to the powers that be to find a solution to this endless crashing.

    Hey there,

Sorry for the issues you are running into with Minecraft Education.

What world are you having issues with changing the gamemode for? Is it all worlds or just one Coding world?

How long will this problem last!
It has been 4 months since November!
    Is there any update yet?
How long will you let your child cry?
    Parents are also in trouble.
Please update now so we can get the preview version.
