Minecraft Education is crashing on multiple users' devices.
We have received reports of Minecraft Education crashing on several users' devices.
We are experiencing crashes after about 10 minutes of starting to play Minecraft Edu on our students' PCs.
They say it is more noticeable when they try to open MakeCode, but Minecraft Edu seems to crash even without programming.
Four people are experiencing the same symptoms.
There does not seem to be a problem with the PC specs.
Here are some examples of the specs of the students experiencing problems, just in case.
OS: Windows 11
CPU: Ryzen5 7530U
RAM: 16GB
GPU: Radeon Grahics
SSD: 500GB (400GB free space)
Minecraft Education: 1.21.06
OS: Windows 11
CPU: i7-12700H
RAM: 64GB
GPU: Iris(R) Xe Graphics
SSD: 500GB (400GB free space)
Minecraft Education: 1.21.06
Video settings for Minecraft Eucation are as follows
Smooth Lighting: Off
High Quality: Off
Drawing Distance: 5 chunks
Anti-aliasing: 5
The following is a list of the four people's concerns in their situation.
Two of them started facing problems right after updating with Windows Update.
Two installed Minecraft Education for the first time in November and have been facing this problem since the beginning.
Where is the problem?
Since more than one person is experiencing the same problem, there may be something else going on besides the settings and specs of the PC.
Please let me know what the solution is.

We are also having this problem in my classroom. With or without MakeCode being opened and coding, the Minecraft Education just crashes (Closes) without any warning. We are operation on Windows 11

Hey there Amanda,
Sorry you are running into similar issues. It is very odd this issue occurs without MakeCode running as well.
How often does it crash? How consistent does it happen? How many users would you say are affected?
And 明 岩坂 ! Sorry we missed your message!
This to me sounds like an issue the team is aware of which is MakeCode crashing Windows devices. Unfortunately there is no workaround or ETA for a fix at this time, but the team is aware of the issue and working towards a fix. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the patience on this.

Today in our 60 minute period a student using makecode crashed about every 3 minutes for about 20 minutes. It got to the point we had to hard restart the computer because we couldn't close the application. Minecraft Education is installed as an app on our Windows 11 desktop computers. Another student done with work not using makecode crashed 3 different times in about the same span- no warning but just entire app crashes. Sometimes they are starting to see that the mouse freezes so they can't look left or right before it crashes, other times it is without any warning. Out of 19 students today in an hour, almost all the Minecraft Education applications crashed at least once.

In my classroom, students experience crashes while using it. The Minecraft version is all V1.21.06 and Windows11.
1-1. From around November to December 2024
1) In the case of Student A
- (November 3) (DELL-PC) Crashed twice.
- (December 5) (DELL-PC) Crashed three times continuously at intervals of about 5 to 10 minutes.
2) Student B (December 8) (DELL-PC)
- Another student also crashed about 30 minutes after starting.
- This student usually uses it without any issues.
- After crashing, switching to an HP PC resolved the issue.
- There are two DELL PCs purchased this year, but it is unclear whether A/B were using the same or different DELL PCs (I don't remember).1-2. December 15
1) December 14: Set up the DELL-PC according to the equipment manual
- The render distance was 40, so I changed the settings of the two DELL-PCs to 19 and 20.
2) December 15 trial session
- The HP PC, which had not crashed before, crashed.
3) December 15 during class
- The DELL-PC, with the render distance changed from 40 to 19, crashed (about 10 minutes after class started). Continued with the HP-PC, which did not crash during the trial session, but it crashed (about 10 minutes later).
- Continued with a MacBook afterwards, and it did not crash.Render Distance
[Before Change] The render distance was 40.
[After Change] Changed to 19 (could not set it to exactly 20).2. Current Situation
1) PC Environment
The teacher's device information is as follows:
- 3 HP PCs (Windows 11)
Purchased last year
CPU: Intel Core i5 12th Gen
GPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics
Memory: 16GB
Disk: 512GB
- 3 DELL PCs (Windows 11)
One purchased at the end of last year, two purchased this spring
CPU: Intel Core i5 13th Gen
GPU: Intel Iris Xe Graphics
Memory: 16GB
Disk: 512GB2) Situation
- HP-PC
From last year to October this year, five students used Minecraft on three HP PCs during classes without any crashes.
Therefore, I thought HP PCs would not crash, but today (December 15), two different HP PCs crashed, so it was found that HP PCs can also crash.
→ 2 out of 3 crashed
- DELL-PC
Crashed even after changing the render distance.
- MacBook
Worked without crashing for a short time.
Since HP PCs, which did not crash until October this year, also crashed, I have the impression that it might be dependent on the Windows 11 OS version update after November.3. About MakeCode
The student who crashed three times at intervals of 5 to 10 minutes (on December 5) often had the MakeCode screen up.
I thought about resetting, but this student seems to like the MakeCode screen, so I continued as it was.
However, it is unclear if the MakeCode screen was up when it crashed.
Another student also had the MakeCode screen up occasionally, and I remember resetting it. However, it is unclear if the MakeCode screen was up when it crashed as well.1 -
Regarding the above post, I have confirmed the OS information and added additional details.
Both DELL and HP were running Windows 11 24H2.
However, there have been instances where it crashed, albeit less frequently, on 23H2 as well.
I would appreciate it if you could check this!0 -
Hey there,
Thanks for the additional info. This is sounding like a known issue the dev team is tracking with 24H2. They are investigating, so unfortunately there is no workaround at this time.
However, you could try our Preview build to see if that helps the issue at all:
Let us know if you try and how it goes!
