Minecraft Education Edition always crashes in ONE specific world!
Dear community,
a group of students encountered the following problem in their world. They spent several hours building it, so it would be a disaster if this world cannot longer be used. No error message or code is shown, the program simply closes without any warning.
When the world is opened, the game sometimes crashes without any warning (before you can actually see the world). However, most of the times it is possible to move around for around 30 seconds. After that, the game starts lagging and the whole program crashes soon after.
Here are a few details and things I have tried to fix the problem - without any success:
- Running on Windows 10
- Newest Minecraft Education Edition version 1.17.32 (I completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game)
- No resource- or skin-packs are used.
- The problem is present on different accounts
- The world was exported by the student, sent to me and I opened the world - same problem
- I created a local copy of this world and deactivated things like command blocks and animals in the world settings
- I re-imported the world several times
- In the 30 second time window that I had, I used "/kill @e" to remove all entities.
- After joining the world, I immediately teleported far away to avoid any chunk loading problems caused by redstone etc.
- Other worlds are working perfectly fine, it's just this specific world
It would be really helpful if someone has an idea on how to fix this. I'm not too familiar with logging in the Education Edition so maybe someone could tell me how I can generate the necessary log file or a way to generate an error code/message.

Hey Konstantin,
Sorry to hear! You did a lot of great troubleshooting steps by the way.
Is it possible that a student would sabotage the world with a lag machine? That's the first thing that came to my mind when reading your post, however your troubleshooting step of teleporting far away immediately and the error still occurring, has me thinking maybe not. Some lag machines use minecarts, so eliminating entities would have not necessarily stopped it. Sounds like all the students want the world back up though, so hopefully no one created a lag machine.
And just to confirm, this is a completely unmodded world, correct?
What type of world file is it? Did it get converted into a .mcworld from another file type previously?
Have you tried running it on a Chromebook or Apple device to see if it crashes there as well?

Hmm, I'm curious if it can be converted for use with Java via AmuletMC . . . and possibly saved that way?

Danny thanks a lot for your reply. Yes, I also thought of a lag machine but after talking to the students and with all the information I gathered, it seems like the issue must be something else.
It is an original .mcworld file and was never converted from a different file type and indeed, it is completely unmodded.
Unfortunately I don't have a Chromebook or Apple device at hand. If you want, I could also send the world file to you so that you can take a look yourself.

Bryan Sanders Thanks for this idea. I haven't heard of AmuletMC until now. I will take a look at it. Is there also a reversed option to convert a Java world back to a MC-EduEdi world?

Hey Konstantin Sandfort, no problem!
And yeah feel free to attach the world here as long as there is no personally identifiable information contained within the world. I can launch it on my end to troubleshoot a bit as well, though to be fair you have already covered a lot of things I would be looking for as well.
And great thought too Bryan, never know maybe a conversion could work.

Hey Danny, thanks a lot for offering help.
I cannot directly attach files in this forum, so here is a Google Drive link to the world file:

I am very curious whether it is possible to pinpoint the exact cause of the problem in this world. Good luck with the troubleshooting and let me know if you need any more information! :)

Thanks Konstantin Sandfort, very odd! Same thing happened to me. Launches, about 5 seconds later crashes. I can see if the team has any suggestions other than what we already covered, but my initial thoughts are it seems to be corrupted :/
