Game crashing immediately upon opening world
Just to be transparent, I had asked Claude AI about my problem and it generated the following report as the problem is very long and difficult to explain by hand
Summary
Minecraft Education crashes immediately when opening any world — brand new empty worlds and existing worlds alike — on build 1.26.32. This did not happen on the previous build (1.21.133). The issue has recurred multiple times over several weeks despite reinstalling and clearing app data.
Device & App Info
- Device: iPad Air (M3)
- iOS/iPadOS version: 26.6 (previously reproduced on 26.5 as well)
- Minecraft Education build: 1.26.32
- Branch: edu_r26u3

Crash Reports Submitted
Two separate crash dumps from two separate occurrences, both showing the identical failure pattern:
-
Crash ID:
514905ff-efa1-45bd-a391-— Aug 8, 20268d8a2cbb606d -
Crash ID:
cc5a4731-6ed2-41db-baa7-— Aug 20, 2026212747758b04
Both dumps show the same signature:
- Exception occurs on the same thread (thread id 259) during world initialization
- Exception address is a tiny near-null offset both times (
0x40in the first,0x11ain the second) — consistent with a null/uninitialized object being dereferenced during world load, not a hardware, GPU, or memory-corruption fault
Steps to Reproduce
- Open Minecraft Education (build 1.26.32)
- Open or create any world
- App crashes instantly, before the world finishes loading
Reproduces on:
- A brand new, empty world with no add-ons
- An existing world with custom behavior/resource packs
- The same existing world after removing all third-party add-on packs
What's Been Ruled Out
- Not a specific world/save file issue — happens on brand new worlds too
- Not the add-on packs — crash persists after removing all behavior/resource packs from the affected world
- Not device spec/hardware — iPad Air M3 is well above minimum requirements (1GB RAM min / 2GB storage min per official specs)
- Not a corrupted local install (short-term) — reinstalling the app has temporarily fixed it before
Troubleshooting Already Attempted
| Action | Result |
|---|---|
| Sign out / sign back in | Fixed it temporarily (~1-2 days) on one occasion; did not work on a later occurrence |
| Uninstall and reinstall app | Fixed it temporarily (~3-4 weeks) on one occasion; did not work on the most recent occurrence |
| Cleared iCloud backup data for the app, then reinstalled | Did not fix it |
| Removed all add-on packs from the affected world | Did not fix it |
| Checked device storage and iPadOS version | Storage is not the issue; device is on a current iPadOS version |
Timeline / Pattern
- World loading worked normally on build 1.21.133
- After updating to 1.26.32, crashes began
- A reinstall resolved it for roughly 3-4 weeks of normal use
- Crash recurred; a later reinstall + clearing iCloud data did not resolve it this time
- The exact relationship to iOS updates is unclear — an iOS update occurred at some point in this window, but it isn't confirmed whether it directly triggered the recurrence
Notes
- This looks like a recurring/regressing local state issue specific to build 1.26.32 on this device, rather than a one-off crash — the fact that fixes (reinstall, sign-out) only hold temporarily before the identical crash signature returns suggests something is being rebuilt in a broken state over time, or that 1.26.32 has a bug on this hardware/OS combination that periodic resets only mask.
- Happy to provide the full
.dmpand.crashedsessionfiles for both crash IDs above if needed.
