    Hey all!
Thank you so much for your patience!
This update has actually come out as of today! 1.21.133 should resolve this issue for all schools running Smart App Control, Microsoft Enterprise App Control, and similar programs!
You can learn how to get updated here: Update to a New Version of Minecraft Education – Minecraft Education

    Hey there,

Sorry to hear you are running into some issues with CodeBuilder crashing.

Just had a few questions to help us support you further:

1 - Have these issues started since the update?

2 - What are the device specs of the device running into issues?

3 - Do you know others running into these issues?

4 - Does it happen only in certain worlds or all worlds?

We have exactly the same issue in our School for all students.

We have Microsoft Application Control on our student devices and Minecraft for Education has been working with this for years until the latest update.  We now have to disable Code Builder or we get the same crash as described by Ewan including the installation corruption which means we have to repair/uninstall/reinstall the app before it will even open again.

Not sure what has been changed in the latest version but I suspect it may be the new Read/Write functionality with MakeCode that allows the files to be locally read/write.  If this is the case, it would be good if the local read/write functionality could be turned off as a general setting for the Minecraft App while still allowing Code Builder to be enabled on Worlds as many schools would have device restrictions enabled on student devices.

It has caused us enormous problems and huge amounts of time troubleshooting to even figure out that Worlds will only load with Code Builder disabled.

1: i only installed the most recent update, i havent used older versions

2: i5-1235U, 8GB DDR4, and installed on an nvme ssd. Normal worlds have zero performance issues, even the java edition of the game isnt laggy.

3: yes, the other people in the building

4: all worlds with 'code builder' enabled

Thanks for that info Ewan, are you using Microsoft Application Control by any chance as well?

Amanda, we will see you in your ticket for support! \o/

We are seeing this issue as well. Worlds only work with CodeBuilder disabled. Was there a solution to this?

    Hey Jono,

Sorry to hear you are running into some issues with this as well. Are you also using Microsoft Application Control?

What Make/Model/OS versions have you noticed issues on?

Yes using Microsoft App Control. No changes to the app control this year. Minecraft worked fine last year.

    Using Minecraft Education V1.21.13201.0

Deployed via InTune as a Microsoft Store App to the system environment of Windows 11 25H2 laptops.

    Hey there,

Thanks for the patience on this. It looks like this issue will be addressed in the upcoming hotfix / update but unfortunately no ETA on the release at this time.

Thanks for the update. How often do hotfixes / updates normally get released?

We ask because this current issue is significantly impacting our students use of the product. They basically can't use it at the moment due to this issue.

    Hey Jono H
We apologize for the inconvenience caused by this issue, we understand it's a frustrating one.

We tend to release our hotfixes around the average holiday breaks for schools. So one hotfix in the Fall, one feature update in the Winter (towards the end of December, or early January), one hotfix in the Spring (about this time of year), and a feature update in the Summer. With a few Preview/Beta's sprinkled throughout.
Feature updates being those that contain our larger features, or the drops from Minecraft Bedrock/Java.

However, this schedule isn't a set in stone one, and we do adjust it depending on development time, bug priority, and other factors. All of that to say, we don't really have a set in stone schedule, and can't provide an exact ETA at this time.

We do have the hotfix for this issue slated to release early next week, if not this week. We have already verified the fix with other schools who have graciously tested with us during development, and we're confident this will fix the issue for all schools affected by this issue using Microsoft-related enterprise firewalls.

We apologize for the inconvenience, and appreciate your patience.
