Unstable World Hosting issue
Hi. Our school district has subscriptions to Minecraft Education for all students and we have been using Minecraft Education in our technology curriculum for the past few years.
Recently, during the last two months, we have been experiencing a very unstable world hosting issue. Students are kicked out of the hosting world all at once very frequently (but seemingly randomly). Sometimes during an hour of class, everybody would get disconnected at the same time every 2 or 3 minutes from the hosting world. On some days, yet, there might be zero disconnection.
We use iPads for hosting and playing. All iPads are up to date and they have the same latest version of Minecraft Education. Also, all iPads are on the same network at school.
We also tried hosting worlds from homes and students reported they experience the same disconnecting issue.
We want to know if there are tricks we can try to keep connected, or if this is actually a world hosting issue on the Minecraft Education end that we have to wait for it to be fixed.
Thanks!

Hey there,
This sounds like a host cap issue!
While the technical maximum amount of players that multiplayer supports is 40 players, the real number is highly dependent on the host devices specifications. iPads tend to be pretty limited on the max number of players who can join as they don't have the most robust CPU or RAM. When it runs out of those resources, it will often cause the internal server to start to slow down, or crash, and cause the disconnection your seeing.
Can you verify about how many players are joining when the issue occurs?0 -
Thanks for your reply.
Students are working in small groups from 2 to 4 players in each world.
It is quite frustrating for students to have to relog every few minutes. It just started recently in the past two months.

Hey there,
2-4 does seem on the lower side, even in this situation. Are you able to try different devices to see if the issue replicates there? And/or are you able to have some users on Ethernet and test if their experience is better?

I seem to be restricted to 4 on one device. Some students are stuck on the login screen as well.

Gotcha, were you able to test an Ethernet connection to see if you can get more than 2-4 in with a host on Ethernet?
Also tell us more about the students stuck on login screen please. Is it a blank white screen or do you get an error? How many users are running into the login screen issue?

I posted in a different thread about the python tutorials not working but we were also experiencing the host seemingly crashing (couldn't interact with blocks or right click to open the phone in Seymore island) but wasn't sure if this was a single larger issue or related to python tutorial issue. We've duplicated the issue on 3 different instances of Seymore Island with the same results: Block coding works with the tutorials but the python won't ever start nor does it let us trade back to python mode after starting in block coding mode. We're a small class of only 20 or so students on an AP with 200Mbps of internet.
