Operator Issue (students defaulted to Operator)
Just putting this back up since there doesn't seem a solid answer from the community. With settings set to make students "member" they are still joining as "operators"

Sorry to hear you are running into some issues with students with Operator status. This usually means you will need to reach out to your IT admin to make sure the licenses attached to the students are "student issued" licenses if your organization purchased from a partner. "I’m experiencing the same issue. I've already updated my license to Microsoft 365 A1 for Faculty, but the problem persists. Even though the classroom settings are set to 'members,' students still join my world as 'Operators' by default.
One thing to note: we only assigned 'Minecraft Education Faculty' licenses to our student accounts. I’ve searched through various community articles but haven't found a solution yet. Any advice would be appreciated!"
BTW I am the IT admin.

Sorry to hear you are running into some issues with Minecraft Education and users joining with operator permissions when they should not.
The way Minecraft Education inherits license permissions is based off other licenses on the account. For example if Student 1 has M365 A3 Office for Faculty attached to their account, Minecraft Education sees that and thinks "oh they are faculty, I will join them as operator." Does that make sense? That seems like what is going on here. They will need student use licenses attached to their accounts and nothing that says "faculty' for this issue to resolve. It can also take up to ~ 10 days or so until those permissions are removed after the licenses are switched around just as a heads up.
Also side note Minecraft Education is included with M365 A3 and A5 licenses, not A1 licenses as per - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/servicedescriptions/office-365-platform-service-description/microsoft-365-education
