    Hey there!

Sorry to hear you are running into some issues installing Minecraft Education.

Could you share a screenshot of the error you get? (without any personal info please)

What happens when you try to download a fresh copy of Minecraft Education from here - https://education.minecraft.net/en-us/get-started/download

    Still the same error?

    Hello! Another educator here.

We encountered the same error on our school computers, along with another one related to a missing Visual C++ DLL.

The issue seems to be connected to the Themida obfuscation system.

We tried reinstalling the app multiple times using different settings and accounts, but it didn’t work.

We also tried running it as administrator, but that didn’t help either.

While investigating the issue, our team found that the missing DLL (cohtml.WindowsDesktop.dll) is actually present in the installation directory, right next to the .exe file.

Hopefully, this information helps point you closer to the real cause of the problem.

    Thanks in advance!

Similar error for a PC I'm trying to install on:

Cannot find vcruntime140.dll. Please re-install this application.

    Details:

    This is a Win10 22H2
    Intel i3
    4 GB RAM
Using the .exe installer. Had an older version of MCE installed, but uninstalled it prior to trying the new version.

    Hey all,
VCRuntime is part of Visual Studio Redistributable. I was able to reproduce this issue with the EXE Installer. From what I recall, older versions are supposed to install it as part of the bundle, but that doesn't appear to be happening. I'm going to bring this up to the team and see if this is a bug to fix.

In the meantime, try manually installing VS Redistributable from the following link. The download links are about halfway down. Be sure to select the proper version! (x86 for 32-bit systems, x64 for 64-Bit, or ARM for ARM based PCs)! Latest supported Visual C++ Redistributable downloads | Microsoft Learn

Let us know if you have any additional questions, or concerns!
    Thank you!

    Hey all,
For additional context, I believe, the cohtml.WindowsDesktop.html issues may be related the VS Redistributable one mentioned above. I'm working on confirming this myself.

Additionally, Pablo Parra or choi suyeon, would either of you be able to confirm yoSur haArdware specifications. I have found a few reports of issues with this DLL on ARM powered PCs, but I want to verify if either of you are on ARM before I run that up the chain. I am again, working on confirming this myself in case of either of you can't.

Something else that would help ALOT if you're willing, would be to see if we could grab a log of the install. You can test this by running the installer from CMD with the following commands:
    1. cd [path to installer]
    2. [installer name] /V*L [path to log]

This will output a log at the specified directory that we can look into and see if the install is failing something :)

    Thank you

    Hi, there!

Regarding the content of this thread, the issue with version 24H2 has occurred in the old version, and I would like to announce the latest version to the classroom I manage.

However, I would like to make the announcement to the classroom after there is a prospect of resolving this issue.

Therefore, please let me know the following:

    - On which Windows devices can the defect in this thread occur?
→ I would particularly like to confirm the investigation status of the ME support team.

    - Is there a plan to resolve this defect, or will it be addressed with a new version release?
→ If there is a plan to resolve it, please let me know when it is expected.

    - If this issue is occurring at present, is it sufficient to make an announcement as Kaleb mentioned in the chat as a countermeasure?

    Thank you in advance.

Additionally, four similar incidents have been reported from our classroom.
As a reference, we are providing the information of the affected devices.
    **First Incident:**
    Windows 10 Pro 22H2
    - OS Build: 19045.6093
    - CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-4210M 2.60GHz
    - Installed RAM: 4GB
    - System Type: 64-bit
→ The issue was resolved by downloading and installing the 64-bit exe file.
    **Second Incident:**
    Windows 10 Pro 22H2
    Device Name: DESKTOP-UC1F9A9
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-7100U CPU @ 2.40GHz 2.40 GHz
Installed RAM: 4.00 GB (3.87 GB usable)
Storage: 119 GB SSD SK hynix SC311 SATA 128GB System
Type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor
→ The issue was resolved after reinstalling Minecraft.

For the other two devices, only the fact that they are running Windows 10 is known, making further verification difficult.
    Thank you!

    Hey there,
    Thanks for all the information.
Our team is looking into this. We believe the issue stems from the installer trying to use an existing install of Visual Studio (32-bit) from previous Minecraft Installations, as we've only seen the issue occur with updates (please correct me if I'm wrong :)) Since we no longer support 32-bit systems, the 64-bit version of VS Redistributable is required.

We're working to see if we can find a fix on our end, however my temporary solutions of manually installing the 64-bit version should work in the meantime!

    Hello Everyone,

We’ve fixed the issue. You just need to manually update to the latest version of the VC Redistributable.

This resolves the problem on both Windows 10 and Windows 11.

I hope this helps you out.

    Thanks.
