I can't find the trusted skin button in setting general is it located somewhere else or removed

Hey there!
There were issues preventing it from meeting the expectation of what users want the toggle to do, so we removed it so we can refine and improve the experience to a place we all will be happy with the functionality of it. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the patience!

What does this mean?
Does it mean that the original skin is no longer available?0 -
Hey there!
What original skin are you referring to?
This just means the toggle has been removed to see untrusted skins while the team refines it.

I understand that the toggle to show untrusted skins has been removed.
Will this toggle ever be reinstated?
Is there any chance it will be reinstated in the next update?I enjoy Minecraft Education with original skins created by children in my classroom.
We would love to be allowed to use custom skins.

Hey there!
Thanks so much for your feedback, we totally understand there are cases out there like yours, which is why the team is working towards a solution. Unfortunately, there is no ETA for the function's potential return at this time, but we thank you for your patience and sorry for the inconvenience!

Was there a need to remove it? Could it not be fixed with the current one still in game? It is a harmless feature after all, and I was thinking removal might not be necessary? Apologies if this is a misunderstanding, however I believe you could just keep the current in game feature and improve it without fully removing it. ?

I use Minecraft Education Edition for filmmaking. My students are VERY upset that they cannot use their custom skins that match their very unique characters. Please put this option back in the game.

Hey there, I just wanted to share some feedback about the removal of custom skins from Minecraft: Education Edition.
I totally understand wanting to improve features before making them permanent, but taking away custom skins altogether feels like a step in the wrong direction. One of the best parts of Minecraft is the ability to express ourselves—and in a classroom setting, that personal touch really helps students feel connected and engaged.
It’s especially frustrating when platforms like Tynker promote skin compatibility with Education Edition, but those imports don’t even work now. It’s confusing and a bit disappointing for users who relied on that feature.
Could we please get some clarification on when the custom skins feature might return, or at least what stage the improvements are in? A general timeline would go a long way in keeping the community informed and feeling heard.
Thanks for taking the time to listen—we’re looking forward to seeing this feature come back better than ev

Hey there Alexander! Thanks for the feedback. When you say "everyone looks the same", are you referring to everyone looks like Steve or Alex? Or that you are only now limited to the 100 or so skins that are available?

Hey there Sonny!
Are you and your friends on different versions of Minecraft Education? What version are each of you on?

Hi Danny,
will the feature be available anymore because I can see my custom skin, but my friends can't, and it really isn't good as they see random skins that Minecraft education provides but I see my own custom skin. If the feature is coming back when will it be?

Hey there!
Sorry to hear you are running into some issues with this change. I have reached out to the team with everyone's concerns and I will let you know as soon as I hear some new information! Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the patience.

Excuse me I would like to ask a question about the custom skin thing in Minecraft education, how come your team can't make it so untrusted skins is always off so that custom skins work every time and nobody needs to turn it off ever again?

Hey there,
Thanks for your feedback! The team is looking to refine the setting so it better aligns with it's intention. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the patience on this!

Yeah terrible terrible move by MS. Stop fixing things that aren't broke! Anyway in the latest preview the option is back, so I'm guessing it is coming back. I was going to use the preview, but it's not connecting for multiplayer with the current build and I don't want to have to put all machines onto the preview (I have like 65) and plus the preview has the annoying log text at the top of the screen.

Yes, I agree. Minecraft Education, I need the only allow trusted skins back. Because you don't have it, it interrupts some of my add-ons I have in Minecraft Education. I also need it for screen casting on my computer. Please add it back.

I'm happy to share some of the student films that use the custom skins. There are tons of film ideas that wouldn't be possible without the button to allow untrusted skins. I hope this feature comes back because I want to diver deeper into a unit on the film concept of mise-en-scene next year where students learn how to control the lighting(weather), locating structures for set design, designing their costumes, and choosing props to visually reveal information about their characters. This year I made the costume design lesson optional, but it was a huge hit for those who were able to see them.

Hey there!
We hear you all! Sorry you were all impacted by this change. A team member found a workaround hopefully will help you all while the team works on the intricacies of that setting.
Edit the options.txt file found in the app folder. (This article will help lead you in the relative direction of the app folder- https://edusupport.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4404785703316-Location-of-World-Files)
Change the following setting in options.txt:
only_show_trusted_skins:1 (means only trusted skins are allowed)
only_show_trusted_skins:0 (means any skins are allowed)
The value the toggle modified is still accessible even though the setting is gone. I hope that helps!1 -
Thank you Danny. My students won't be able to use that fix since we are on iPads and can't get to the options.txt file, however, we appreciate you offering options and communicating with the team about a fix. It feels great to be heard.
