    Hey there,

Sorry to hear you are running into some issues with Minecraft Education.

Just had a few questions to help us support you further:

1.) Do you know of any others running into this issue?

2.) Any error messages come up that you can screenshot?

3.) Is this a home network or school network?

4.) Is this a commercial account or school managed account?

I work at a school in the IT dept. we see this all the time, so may others with the same issue.

No error messages, just freezes and have force quit to close it.

It's on a school network but does the same when hot spotting.

The students are all signing in with full MS accounts.

You ask "do you know of any other users running into this issue" check your own forums... everybody is having the same issue https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/community/posts/5929670366356-Minecraft-is-freezing-when-i-open-it

    Hey there,

Gotcha, yeah we are aware of other customers having this issue as well. That question was more geared towards a number of users within your organization / environment to get a sense of the issue that you specifically are experiencing.

Are you able to take one of the devices home and test on a home network as well to see if the issue replicates there too?

Which MAC OS version are the devices on? Are there any on an older OS that you can test on?

same problem.. tried everything (clear caches, prefs, rebooting, changing wifi, reinstalling)...

it's the first mac app that gives me problems in years!

    macOS 14.5 macbook pro M1.

can't use the trial nor login with our license.. after a few seconds everything freezes. no logs in the Console

    (PS: i'm a >30 years mac developer)

  • it's very strange that an app can change the antialiasing of the menu! maybe it's a graphic card / driver problem?

  • SOLVED: i disabled the macOS native firewall, under Networkd

    Hey there!

WOW Thanks so much for sharing your fix! Interesting the freeze after startup is related to the firewall.

We understand that this is not an ideal solution, but a fantastic work around for those with this issue.

    Thank you!

Hello! Thanks for all the responses. I'm back to say that unfortunately turning off the native macOS firewall did not work for me. The app continues to freeze 5 seconds after opening.

Has there been any progress on why this is happening? Thanks

    Hey there,

Sorry to hear you are running into some issues still.

Could you try to backup all your data, fully factory reset / wipe your device, reinstall the latest OS, then reinstall Minecraft Education to see if that helps the issue?

I know it is dramatic, but we have had some success with that step.

i have to disable also the Filters (i have Little Snitch that breaks Minecraft Edu)

Finally solved! As per Stefano's comment, it was Little Snitch that was breaking Minecraft Edu. I can leave the firewall turned on, but in filters I have to disable Little Snitch. I guess Minecraft Edu needs unhindered network access!

    Thanks everyone
