iOS - Account Switch Detected
I am a technical analyst for a large school board, supporting a team of field techs who work in schools*. We've encountered several recent incidents in which students are unable to use Minecraft Education Edition on some of our iPads because a login error appears, reading "Account Switch Detected". When this occurs, we are unable to access the app's settings in order to sign out from existing accounts or to attempt a new login, and the app therefore becomes inaccessible. Tapping the "Cancel" button in the corner of the error window simply returns to the same screen again.
In our troubleshooting attempts we have been unable to remove the "stuck" account through any means obvious to us; even if we delete the app itself the cached login data seems to be persistent and upon reinstall, the error will still be present. So far, we've only been successful when erasing and reprovisioning the entire device, but this is not a tenable solution because it requires our field techs to visit the affected site each time, and also because it causes data loss in other apps on the device.
We manage the devices and the app installs using Microsoft Intune. Is there any kind of a configuration we can set up that would prevent accounts from being cached, to ensure each launch of the app is "fresh" and has no previous users? I observed that there is a "Remember Me" toggle switch in the account settings and wondered if forcing this to "Off" via a configuration profile may help prevent this issue from occurring, but I would need support in determining how to configure that for this app so it can be deployed to all of the devices.
A photo of the error from one of my techs is included. Thanks for any support that can be offered.

*Not stating that to request special treatment, but just to establish scale.

Hey David,
Sounds like a frustrating issue.
I am going to go ahead and move this into a ticket for you so we can work a little more in depth than we can here on the forum!
See you over there!0 -

Hey Tanvir!
Are you having the same issues as well?
Just had a few questions to help us support you further:
1.) What device make / model and OS version are you on when you got this error?
2.) Are you on the latest version of Minecraft Education?
3.) Is this a home network or school network?
4.) Is this a commercial account or school managed account?

Hey there,
We have had some success with these steps on Windows devices. It is worth a shot on your IOS device as well -
Steps to clear Minecraft's sign-in cache
- Open Minecraft Education, and close the sign-in window
- Select to go into demo mode
- From demo, click "unlock full game" to get a cleared sign-in window
- Now sign in with your new account'
Let us know if those steps help at all!

Hello, I am also experiencing the same issue on an iPad. Currently on a 9th Gen iPad iOS version 18.2.1. I am on the latest version of Minecraft edu on school network and it is a school managed account. I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft edu and the issue persisted. I have also tried that demo mode in attempts to clear sign-in cache but it did not help. Do you have any further guidance?

Was there a final solution on this? I'm running into this on a 5th gen iPad iOS version 16.7.11 as well with a student account. They can log into a windows MinecraftEdu session with no problem but the Account switch error occurs on the ipad. I've tried Danny's solution above with no luck. I can log in as another student with no problem.

Hey there!
Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the patience on this, I believe the team is still investigating. To help them review and try to repro on our end, could you:
- Share as many specifics to the repro steps steps as you can? What happened before this issue occurred?
- Specifically, was this device previously used by someone else? Is it a shared device? Can the old user log in?
- Can you force this to happen on a device?
- Try to use the demo, and then sign in on the main menu there. One customer reported that it fixed it for them.
- How are the iOS devices are managed? What enrollment solution do you use for the device?
- Do you use an SSO solution? If so, which type/brand?

We tried the demo and log back in without any luck. The device is managed via Intune.
We were able to fix it this morning by having another staff member who had never signed in to sign in to MinecraftEDU on it, then we were able to get the original student account to work again.
I had tried this with my account which it was able to log in with, but not the student account right after. It needed a brand new person's account who had never signed in then back to the student account to do the trick. ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

Hey there!
Interesting! Thanks for those info bits. So is it working now, or you need to do this trick you found each time to log in?
How about:
- How are the iOS devices are managed? What enrollment solution do you use for the device?
- Do you use an SSO solution? If so, which type/brand?

It's working so far. The iOS devices are managed via Intune, plain Microsoft SSO.

Alrighty thank you for that info. Please feel free to reach back out if things get odd again and we can keep digging.

Hello,
The solution I found is as follows for a 9th Gen iPad running iOS 26:
Force close Minecraft Education
Reopen and choose "Demo" session
Go into settings, under "Account" and turn off "Remember Me"
Select "Unlock Full Game" and log into another person's account
Go into settings and sign out of this person's account
Force Close Minecraft Education
Reopen and sign into the student's account
Go into Settings -> Account and turn on "Remember Me"
This fixed the issue of the student's account "Switching" when it was not switching.
Hopefully this helps someone!
