Trying to move around on a Mac, sometimes makes the keys lock.
When I try to move on a Mac, after releasing a key, there is a chance that the game doesn't register the key being released. So I continue moving as if I was still pressing the key. This also happens to the mouse. My friend also uses a mac, and has experienced the same issue.
I use MacBook Pro 2015
My friend uses some form of MacBook Air.
We are both on the latest version of MCEE, and on the latest Mac update.

Hi,
I reported this issue about 6 months back, also on a Mac. This was what they were able to tell me about it:
"You are exactly right. I reached out to the dev team and it is a bug that is logged to investigate further, however there is no current fix or work around that we are aware of for the issue at this time. Sorry about that!"
So, I guess they're aware of it, just no fix still if it's still not working (haven't tried on a Mac recently).
The only 'fix' I found for it was pushing the same key again then releasing it if that helps.

Hey there,
Thanks both of you for the reports.
It could be worth checking if you are still experiencing this issue on our latest beta version found here:

Hi Danny,
Just tried it on the Beta version, still has the sticking issue, still requires pushing the key a second time for it to register the "key up" command/change for which ever key got stuck.
Hope that helps fix it :)

Hey Jeffrey,
Thanks for checking the beta, sorry it did not help with the issue.
Though, funny enough, I had a very similar issue with my personal Windows PC the other day which was extremely annoying. Any game I would play, I needed to double tap the key. Then it worked fine for one tap as it should, until I didn't push that key for 10+sec. Very odd and annoying.
I uninstalled the drivers for my keyboard completely, and restarted the device forcing it to reinstall the drivers for my keyboard again by itself and that did the trick. I am unsure as to where the drivers on the Mac are installed, but that could a path you could take.

I have this issue too. This is on the regular 2025 release on a Mac.

Hey there!
Sorry to hear you are running into some issues with locking keys on Mac too. Do you know of any others running into this issue? What have you noticed about it? Does it only happen when coding or doing a certain task? How often does it happen? It would be great to get as much info as possible so we can share with the test team to see if they can replicate on their end. Thanks!

This is still occuring on the Minecraft education edition, only on macs, last I had asked about it it was a 'known' issue, but since they haven't fixed it yet it's a little crazy. They way around fix it is to click the same key again (which it annoying). It does not have this issue in the commercial version of the game on mac (i.e., the one not based on the bedrock edition), just seems to be the education one.
So the wasd keys, or other movement keys will do this. No issues in chrome or windows OS.

Hey there!
Sorry you are still running into this issue. I can check if our dev team was ever able to replicate this, as we do not get many reports about this.
What OS version are you on for Mac?

It's the latest OS (Tahoe, I believe) version, M1 Max Mac Studio and also on the M2 Pro iMac. It's like the direction keys get stuck, only way to unstick it to press the same key again. It happens on any MacOS version of the game based on reports from folks in our school division who have tried using it on macs in their classes.

Hey there!
Gotcha! Thanks for that info. Hmm. If we make a ticket for you, would you be willing to create a video reproduction of the issue so our test team can see if they can replicate on their end?

It would be difficult to "see" the problem with a screen capture video, because it would look like we would be keeping the key down, nothing else. Just launch the game on OS X and play a little while, you will experience it. Have this bug since the official Microsoft MCEE came out a couple years ago.

Hey there,
Yeah, unfortunately that is the issue. Try as the test team did, they weren't able to replicate it. I get that a screen capture may not show the issue in full, how about a phone video showing the computer itself as well as the character with their keys stuck? Then I can post to the test team to see if that added info would help track down the issue.

Hi Danny
This is a video clip recorded when the issue occurred. The problem happens at around 2 seconds into the video. When I press the W key to move forward one step and break the stone block underneath the gold block, my character continues moving forward uncontrollably. As a result, I end up breaking the wrong block, and my character gets stuck in the corner. The movement only returns to normal after I press the W key again.
This problem can occur with almost any input, including the mouse left click, right click, keyboard WASD keys, Space, and Shift.

I’ve added another video clip. In this clip, when I left-click to break a spruce wood block and then try to place a sign on the spruce wood block behind it, the game continues left-clicking uncontrollably. This causes blocks that are not intended to be broken to be destroyed as well.
The issue only stops after I right-click to place the sign. However, by that time, the sign is placed in a position different from the originally intended location.

Hey there,
Thanks so much for the clips and the descriptions.
Did you try backing up your worlds and uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft Education?
And did you try using different inputs like a different mouse and different keyboard than you usually do? Just as a test. This is on a Mac correct? What OS version?

Hi Danny,
Thank you for the follow-up.
To answer your questions:
-
Versions & Installation: The issue has persisted from version 1.18.45 (and possibly as early as 1.17) through the current 1.21.93. It occurs regardless of whether the app was updated or a clean install was performed. It affects both existing and newly created worlds, as well as both Creative and Survival modes.
-
Cross-Device: My friends and I have also encountered this issue across multiple MacBook devices.
-
Input Devices: In addition to the trackpad, I tested with external mice (both wired and wireless), and the problem remains.
-
Input Method: The input source was set to English for all tests.
This issue only occurs on Mac; friends using Windows have not encountered it.
Device Information:

I have had a similer issue on a Chromebook where after I exit the "pause game" screen (which doesn't actually pause the game, please fix) and when I try to move with the mouse, it doesn't work. I have just opened the screen and closed it again and that fixes it. Same with chests and barrels.
