Just downloaded the GOAT Beta and looks great! I copied my 'minecraftpe' folder FIRST -- before opening 1.17.30.2, but everything in my existing saved worlds worked just fine.

You have a customized and also outdated version of MCEE. Try using the standard version downloaded from the website.

Gotcha -- I get that and support your position. I think they are keen on development but there has been a lot to do and "catch up" to Java.  I would argue that I want more from the Chemistry set in...

sometimes the connection is strange -- I recommend rebooting the wifi and the computer -- also make sure that the IT Team has the correct URLs open on the network https://educommunity.minecraft.net...
