Minecraft Chromebook app hangs - black screen
Hi, we've got some new chromebooks (lenovo ideapad 14) at school and the minecraft app doesn't appear to like them. Get the red Mojang then blank. The minecraft EE logon doesn't come through.
I've uninstalled, reinstalled, no joy - but I can see I am not alone - and this is an acknowledged bug.
Wow 1.18.32 is a bit of a disaster with the issue of the multiplayer too. Perhaps a roll back to 1.17 is urgently needed until these issues are sorted?

Hey everyone!!
The team rolled out a hotfix on Tuesday to fix this issue! If you continue to experience this issue on Chromebooks, please contact the support desk: https://aka.ms/MEE_New_Request
We greatly appreciate everyone's patience while we worked with Google to resolve the issue.

Thank you for writing in. Does this issue only affect the new Chromebooks and the older ones work? We are discussing trying to provide an earlier build but do not have one to offer at this time. The issue for this screen freeze, we think is due to communication interruption at time of login. Try checking for any communication issues and try using a fresh user login for the device between testing. The Devs are working hard on all the issues and please bear with us.

Yup - just the new batch are impacted by this bug. Profile change etc does not work. Our older chromebooks run the 1.18.32 app (but no multiplayer) - this is not a network issue since both are in the same network and the same profile works on one machine but not the other.

Just doing it for the kids - they love it and learn so much. This game is very important to our school and we really want to see it working smoothly!

I don’t know if this adds anything to the debugging process around this issue but when I looked at the directory structures created for version 1.17 (which, by the way, works great on my Acer Chromebook Spin 311) and version 1.18 which hangs prior to getting the login prompt with the red/black screen it seems that the program stops just prior to creating the storage_object and telemetry_info.json files. I am thinking this may help focus where the problem occurs. I have registered as a Beta user and would be willing to test any update that helps resolve this issue.

Please tell me there is a fix for this. This has really de-railed the coding unit for 7th graders in MInecraftEDU for the last month. None of them can sign on due to the black screen.

Hey Ben,
While the team is making great strides towards fixing the issue, there is still no current ETA for a fix at this time. It is absolutely something the team has on their mind. Sorry for the inconvenience!

I realize you are working hard, but you have to know how devastating the lack of an ETA is from an educator perspective. It can be difficult to sell the utility of Minecraft Education over other coding applications in some school buildings, but to not even be able to give my bosses an ETA on when this plan start (after they chose to purchase Minecraft for the building instead of competitors) is going to be a very difficult thing for me to do.
Please let me know when you have an ETA.0 -
Is there still no update on this?
I am at a district with over 1,000 chromebooks and none have been able to access Minecraft all year. I think it's time to start talking refunds.0 -
Hey Brian!
So sorry about the inconvenience. There is an update though!
The issue has been identified and a patch is being worked on. I cannot give an exact ETA, but I would think within a month it should roll out.

Do we have an update?

We are targeting a hotfix for this issue in the next week!

Happy to report the 1.18.45 release now works on our new Chromebooks. Phew. Thanks guys - but wow - that was a major issue for quite a long time. I suggest a lot of testing goes into the next 1.19 release before it goes out!!

Hey Tim! Great to hear!
And thanks so much for the feedback, sorry it took so long!
Cheers.
