Minecraft deleting my stuff

I put grass blocks and a house over a body of water and was playing when I saw that the fence I put around my house was gone. I searched up "fence" but it wasn't showing up. Then I saw that half the blocks I put down were gone and sunk beneath the water. The only thing I did before it did that was use a command to kill bats around me.
