    Hey Tristan!

Currently there is no way to download a custom skin directly from the app to protect students and teachers.

There are plenty of great ones to choose from within the app though!

I run a Homeschool Microsoft 365 for Education A3 tenet.  Everyone is using their personal devices which range from desktops and laptops running windows 10 to chrome books and Ipads.  Windows machines and Ipads have been able to connect to multiplayer games since the update though we have had lots of problems with players getting kicked from the world repeatedly and regularly when some one first joins a hosted world, it will shut down minecraft on that hosting machine and we have to restart.  (Was not so bad when IP address and port were used since I wouldn't have to re-share that on each restart.)
Our members with chrome books have not yet been able to join any multiplayer, even in their own household.
We are still having issues with multiplayer connections and minecraft education edition.

My Primary Hosting computer has had all the URL whitelisted and our ISP has that port range set to DMZ

I am having some of them come over to my house with their chrome books on Monday and we will try to get them connected while on our LAN connection but If I have to go house by house and device by device to customize everyone's firewalls to allow each URL individually, this just isn't going to work.

And what really makes this difficult is that it doesn't seem to be consistent so trouble shooting the real problem is a challenge since it is working one day and not the next.  The chrome book managed to connect to a world on the pc for 20 seconds but then was kicked out and they haven't managed to get that to work since and they have never managed to connect to the world hosted at my house.

They have been getting the timed out message.

    Editing to add.
I do not have a chrome book to test with myself but I decided to try putting education edition onto an android phone.
I found that the phone was able to host a world and the pc could join it.  Unfortunately if the phone switches apps or allows the screen to go dark, anyone connected to the world will loose connection.

When I tried to use the phone to connect to a world hosted on the PC, kept getting the timed out message.

I am making this as a separate post rather than editing the above, already long post because I want to keep the date information on the above post accurate and this post is showing some new information for a new date.

Since the above post, I have added the additional URL to our allow list.  Minecraft education edition has always been on our allowed app list on the hosting computer.  The ports are allowed via our ISP and Router.

We are still getting the glitch where sometimes trying to join a hosted world will shut down the hosting client.  That just happened this morning October 9, 2022 before 10 am Eastern Daylight time USA.

I have another post thread where I've been keeping a chronicle of bug reports.  I have not added this to that thread since the last two reports I made on that thread are still in Pending status.

    Hi Team,

We are still having issues with iPads and loading lessons up. Comes up unable to connect to library

Any whitelists i need to add to fix this? I have added the ones that advised on your site but no luck.

In addition to Aleece Landis and others in this thread, I am also reporting the same problems (my report has also been made in a different thread).

Our devices consist of macOS (Intel Macbook Pro and M1 Mac Mini) servers and iOS (iPads). The connectivity issues are same as Aleece Landis describes.

The issues are so frequent I am considering pulling Minecraft Education Edition from our curriculum. That is, prior to the summer update I wanted to actually purchase more MEE licences and extend the use of MEE to our secondary school too.

If Support Team provides info on what debugging information they want to see and how to obtain for MEE, I will gladly cooperate. I want to extend the use of MEE at our school. At this moment, I am forced to cancel it completely.

    1. We have explicitly whitelisted all URLs used by Minecraft Education Edition for all macOS and iOS devices that are used for MEE in our MDM solution and on our LAN as per previous post.
    2. I have made sure to whitelist all incoming and outgoing connections MEE in the system firewall on macOS devices that are used for MEE.

We still experience huge connectivity issues. Users of iOS devices are stuck in "connecting" screen for many minutes just to receive "cannot connect to the world". Some users also get stuck at "searching for the world". Rarely, using connection codes helps.

After several minutes of gameplay (ranging from 3 to 10), some or all users are disconnected. In reality, we never achieve all our students connected to the server at any one time. The disruptions are so frequent they render MEE unusable for teaching.

    Specs of our client devices:
    iPad (5th generation)
    iPad Air 2

    Specs of our servers:
    OS:
    macOS Monterey 12.6
    HW:
    MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019)
    2,6 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7
    16 GB 2667 MHz DDR4
    Macintosh HD
Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

    OS:
    macOS Big Sur  11.6.1 (20G224)
    HW:
    Mac mini M1 (2020)
    16 GB LPDDR4X
    512 GB SSD

    Hey Christopher!

Thanks for the feedback, I recommend posting in Feature Wishlist for more visibility!

I have found that while playing multiplayer, some people cannot join my worlds, and I cannot join theirs. It also seems that commands are extremely laggy on multiplayer. If I enchant something, the glow on the item makes me lag on multiplayer.

I'm assuming that the "P2P/SIG: No_Session" error when hosting/joining is caused by the new change in network requirements. I see that MEE 1.18.x require ephemeral UDP ports for peer to peer vs the 19132 port before "version 1.18.x".
Will there be any future multiplayer options not P2P?

I am sorry that the P2P error is occurring. At this time we are not looking at adding another option for the P2P. We are still investigating the P2P issue and trying to gather information. To clarify, is your client version at 1.18.42?

    1. Make sure that //*.minecraft-services.net/ has been allow listed through firewalls and content filters
    • The signaling connections use wss://signal.franchise.minecraft-services.net
    • The STUN and TURN connections use turn.azure.com / world.relay.skype.com on the 20.202.0.0 / 16 IP range using remote TCP port 443 and remote UDP ports 3478-3481
    • The peer-to-peer connections between host and joining client use local ephemeral UDP ports specified by the host client (the local port range is defined by the OS) and sent to the joining client via the signaling service
    • Our system now uses ephemeral ports. They will need to be unblocked.
    1. Can you tell us if this is device specific or is this happening to everyone and how often?
    2. Try toggling the celluar data setting to on with tablets, Chromebooks, android phones and iOS phones.
      1. It's a setting under Profile on all devices.

Let us know if any of this helps.

?How do we unblock ephemeral ports?  A quick web search seems to be giving me info on Unblocking Ports in general but most things I see about ephemeral ports seem FAR more technical and related to app programing than I think the average teacher is likely to manage.  We need an instruction article to help those of us who may be a little less IT savvy.

My kids can connect, but when I am hosting multiplayer, Minecraft continually crashes on the machine I am hosting on. I have never experienced anything like this before. I had kids in tears this week. I've been doing MCEE for years. I had 150 kids over 3 weeks in the summer. I used it for the first time since end of July this week and it's been terrible. Same maps I've been using for years, same versions of them I used fine in the summer and yet constant crashing (just on the host machine, which obviously kicks all the kids out). Please please please let me roll back to the version from July 2022 as this one is very buggy and not stable at all. HELP!

Those IT items are meant for admins that manage the schools. Normal teachers won't have access to make those changes on the network or device Aleece. David, I have been working with you and the team on this with your tickets. Please refer there for future ideas.

Dominick  "Those IT items are meant for admins that manage the schools. Normal teachers won't have access to make those changes on the network or device Aleece."  I'm the Administrator for our tenet and I'm the one who handles the IT and internet hardware for our network.  Granted, it is just running from a home network but I did have to buy another router in order to be able to host more than one world at a time and handle the port forwarding before 1.18 came out.

I'm really just trying to figure out how to have a more stable connection when students join a multiplayer game.  Regularly the Hosting client just shuts down for no apparent reason.  Other times the students try to join and can't.  Or they are in the world but get kicked out or loose connection.  I realize that sometimes these things are just an issue with the wifi or whatever.  But it has been so much more unstable since the update...

I understand and was just sharing what I could. Sorry that it did not help and that this issue is still ongoing.

Aleece Landis  Ephemeral ports are open by default. Many schools with enterprise level firewalls and common practices to block everything that isn't actively used for educational purposes are the ones that need to focus on things like allow listing URLs and opening ephemeral ports. If you did not block these things in your environment or if you don't have a content filter / firewall that is actively blocking most things, you shouldn't need to do anything for Minecraft: Education Edition to work properly.

If it isn't working properly (in an enviroment that isn't a network-locked down school/business), it is likely an ISP issue, local firewall/antivirus (exceptions on these are generally simple to set up and done by either allow listing the folder or the .exe for the game), or an odd interaction between another software and our game.

Justin Justine Thank you for that detailed explanation.  It helps to have a little more understanding about things that get mentioned even when they probably don't apply to our particular situation. Our set up is not "locked down" but we did still go through and whitelist all the URL and made sure the firewalls/antivirus allows minecraft through.  And things were still not working for some students even after the update to 1.18.42 came out.

A week or so later, we did get a bunch more students suddenly able to connect with no new changes on our end so fingers crossed that whatever was fixed, stays fixed.  Hopefully the stability issues are something that will get improved from the services end as well.

Stability issues where the Hosting client crashes Regularly or At least daily.
I'm looking in the Event Viewer and under windows logs and Application I'm seeing An Application Error for Minecraft.Windows.exe
And the file they give most of the time I'm seeing this error is

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Studios\Minecraft Education Edition\Minecraft.Windows.exe

    And then

    C:\Windows\System32\ucrtbase.dll

I have occasionally seen a different .dll file but this one seems to be coming up late at night when I'm fairly certain none of my students are attempting to log in.

The past several days I have been seeing worlds consistently shut down overnight.  This didn't used to be the case.

Try checking the render distance set on the user's device that connect. We have seen that devices with Nvidia are having their render distance set to max and can cause some crashes to occur with hosted worlds or even solo ones.
