Hi Andrew L - a little off topic I know, but, sticky stuff (flying machines and piston doors) work differently in Bedrock and Java versions. I've been wrestling with piston doors, with not a lot of luck. Can I expect to make them work in MEE following a Java build?

Hey Laurence!
I am not aware that they work very differently in both versions. In my experience, redstone powers a sticky piston which is attached to a block that is used as a door. I believe you should be good either way, but if you want to play safe I would follow a Bedrock build since Minecraft: Education Edition is more closely related to Bedrock than Java. Hope that helps!

Thanks Danny. I think you are right, its just the solutions for Bedrock seem to take up a lot more space and rely a lot more on redstone circuitry which inevitably needs more fault finding. I think I just need to bite the bullet and start digging a very big hole in the middle of my coding competition arena!
Thanks for getting back to me..... I'll share it when I've finished.
