Hosting with a class
Hey
I host a class, but when I am not on it kicks the students off. How to I keep them permanently on, even when I am not on there too?
Cheers

Hey there Kim!
Thanks for writing in.
When you say "when I am not on", are you referring to being on the device at all? Or being on the device but in a different window?

Thanks for your question. To clarify, I have added all the students, when my Minecraft world closes or I am not on my device, all the students get kicked out and I need to re-add them which is rather time consuming. Not related to being on a different window. Is there a way to keep them on. Would making them all hosts work?

Hey Kim,
I see! Thanks for the response. So you have a few options. First being, while there can only be one world host at any given time and you can't make them all world hosts, you could designate one student as the world host and have them stay on for the time period needed. Be careful however because as the host, they will have permissions such as booting other players or activating /wb (World Builder Mode) which could be disruptive if in the wrong hands. If you trust the student you are allotting host privileges to, it won't be a problem.
Alternatively, if you have a second device at your disposal, you could set that up to be the Minecraft: Education Edition host device, and have it run the world as long as you need, while you are free to do what you will on your main device.
Hope that helps!

Hi Kim Greig,
That's correct, you need to have the device on, Minecraft running, and the world hosted for hosting students to work... some teachers will set this up on a device that they can run constantly.
Unfortunately for the time being, there aren't any "server" services for Minecraft Education.

Run your own server farm in the classroom — but let’s think together about having students in the space without teachers. I get why we would want that but I also get why it could be problematic.

Thank you for your help, and it's good to know the parameters to work within.
