Code connection error
If it is difficult to use the education edition, I sometimes use the Bedrock edition to teach.
However, it has not been possible to connect to Bedrock Edition through code connection since a few days ago.
Maybe it's because of the update of Bedrock Edition 1.18.30.
Is there a solution to this problem?
The message comes out.->Please update the application to the latest.

Hey there!
Sorry to hear!
Are you on a home connection or school connection when you get this error?
Do you know others with this error as well?

Danny your suggested link above refers to downloading Code Connection 1.4 and below... which is not available... since we are on version 1.50 and that is the only available anywhere for a while now.
And that is where the problem lays, which everyone is having since many months based on this very thread... and on and off for quite few years based on these other threads.
The problem is that when using Minecraft Bedrock Edition on Windows 10 and trying to connect the Code Connection app to it, so we can use the Microsoft MakeCode and anything other coding paradigm (like Tynker, Python, Javascript for that reason) the Code Connect app shoots an error saying to: "Please update this application to the latest version"... which already is the latest and only version available on the MS Store, or any other official links.
Even on the Microsoft MakeCode very site where are the most updated instructions and links (referring to Code Connect 1.50) to setup MakeCode for Minecraft it includes Minecraft for Windows 10... but as everyone is telling, me included, that is NOT working.
Here included are some Screenshots:P.S.: as you can see from the last screenshot, the MS Store has some weird or maybe outdated information about the Release Date of this app being 3/27/2017... and the support for the many year old versions of Minecraft and Minecraft Education Edition??... but not the latest??

Hi Dominick
I'm still just getting the Update message and the link just takes me to the educational page.Danny Can I presume that although I have bought the BedRock edition microsoft would like to force us onto the educational edition if we want to use code connect because I don't think anyone has the intention to fix the issue. Perhaps you guys should just state it clearly in the popup that code connect has been discontinued for bedrock and that its only supported by the educational edition. This will clear up a lot of confusion. The minecraft universe with all it java and bedrock and mobile and all additions is allready confusing enough as it is. :-)

Is there a download link that I'm not aware of then?
Because I tested the Windows store version (the only one i could find) just yesterday myself, with my up to date Minecraft Bedrock for win10, and it gave me the "Please update" message.0 -
Hey all,
Thanks so much for your patience with the issue, sorry some of you are still unable to use Code Connection.
Pieter, we would love to get it working for you and the others!
What OS and version are you on Pieter?

Hi Danny
Pls see my windows, connect and minecraft version. As far as I know both minecraft and connect are on the latest versions. Not seeing update notices for them.
I also notice now that the connect popup does mention Education Edition. It used to work on the bedrock edition.0 -
Thank you for sending us that information. We will investigate to see what we can find.

I've hit this problem as well, and found a solution.
The problem is that Code Connection (v1.50) doesn't work with the latest versions of Minecraft Bedrock (v1.18 or v1.19). And it gives a rather misleading error: "Please update this application to the latest version".
However it's still possible to use Code Connection with Microsoft Bedrock by installing the older v1.17 version of Minecraft. The following steps worked for me.- Install BOTH of the following from the Microsoft .NET website. These are required to run the Bedrock version launcher. https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/6.0
ASP.NET Core Runtime 6.0.9 ("Hosting Bundle")
.NET Desktop Runtime 6.0.9
- Download the open source "Bedrock Launcher" application from github: https://bedrocklauncher.github.io/
- Run the launcher. Then create and run a new Minecraft "installation" for the latest 1.17 version.
This started up Minecraft Bedrock on version 1.17.41. I was then able to launch Code Connection and connect to the game as normal.
Additional information:- This youtube video gives a demo of installing the bedrock launcher: https://youtu.be/Kl7XxvcbQf4
- .NET is a documented dependency for the launcher. However on my computer, I found that ASP.NET Core Runtime was required as well: https://github.com/BedrockLauncher/BedrockLauncher/blob/lite/docs/SOFTWARE_PREREQUISITES.md
- You may need to be logged in as an Administrator to get the launcher to work.
Some screenshots below -

Now Code Connection works again!2 - Install BOTH of the following from the Microsoft .NET website. These are required to run the Bedrock version launcher. https://dotnet.microsoft.com/en-us/download/dotnet/6.0

Dominick any information about upcoming update for Code Connection?
Rob Starling thanks for the work around.

At this time there is no ETA or updated information we have been provided from the Dev team. Once we are told about one, we will make a new post and pin it to the top of our community page.

Rob Starling you king!!!
Dominick thanks! Hope it's gonna drop sometimes soon :)

I got it. There's no need to install "code connection". The latest version of minecraft:EE has "code builder" fuction.
Type "c" when you enter a world of yours.

회인 구 yes, but we are talking about Bedrock Edition.

Any updated news on this issue for Minecraft Bedrock Edition (Windows 10 Edition)? I hope Microsoft is not trying to exclude some of the community :(

There is a test and some info that might help. Make sure you have operator status before trying any code. When using Code Connection with bedrock, whether or not the user has pressed the play button in Makecode, typing the command 'chicken' will automatically close the chat window, so you'd expect something to happen with code. However, the code will actually only execute if the player has pressed the Play button in MakeCode (which could be an easy thing to overlook if you're accustomed to using CodeBuilder in Minecraft Education. There are some upcoming patches from the Bedrock Edition and Education Edition that may help. Beyond that there is no Dev update that they have provided us. I hope that helps.

Thanks Dominic, but I feel that the logical step for devs is to ditch Code Connection and push everyone towards payed Minecraft EE if they want to use these extra functionalities. The M:EE licencing is desing for that now, so there is no problem like it used to be.
Just my feeling about that.

David Yilma except that since the Minecraft education edition update to 1.18.32, a huge portion of the users can't do multiplayer class activities anymore and those that are able to connect regularly loose the connection to the game repeatedly in a single class session.

Aleece Landis it is frustrating but it doesn't do anything to do with the Code Connection for Bedrock Edition. I currently don't have any issue with connection in Minecraft Education Edition.

The version of Minecraft for Windows is now 1.19.31,
Code Connection 1.50 error still occurs. When will it improve?

Hi All,
I have develop a small tool for work around the v1.50 issue with the latest version of Minecraft Bedrock.
CodeConnectFix : https://github.com/lrocher/CodeConnectFix
This is an intermediate websocket server that simulates a version compatible with v1.50.
Code Connection v1.50 <====> CodeConnectFix <====> Minecraft Bedrock
It's made using node.js and mcpews library.
A standalone windows executable is availlable for simplify usage. It's not fully tested but my son can now learn coding with Minecraft :)
I hope this can be useful for others

This is working even better than the alternative launcher!!! Thank you sir, you're incredible!!!
Ok I've just spend some time testing and it appears that not all code editors get passed the same way, because for some, there were actions that did not work, and others where they did.
For exemple, Makecode editor has virtually no functioning agent code, aside from teleporting it, and using its position as a waypoint of sort, while Code.org agent mouvements worked just fine.
All the other makecode blocks appear to work, I've not tested every single options for all of them, but I tested the blocks themselves and they worked. (aside as said, from the agent)
Scratch has a button which redirect to the website for installing extension, but I couldn't find a minecraft one, so I think it's been deleted.
Tynker code appear to all work fine, except again for the agent, this time the blocks don't even appear in the editor.
All in all, Code.org seems to be working the best, but is woefully lacking in content. Tynker and Makecode work fine except for the agent, but at least they have more blocks to code with.
If anyone figure out something I missed, I'll be open to a solution for that agent problem

Thanks for feedback. I haven't test all blocks command yet :)
I think i have fix agent issue. I have test some commands and it's look working now (at least with MakeCode).
I have publish a new version v1.1.0.For scratch, i think it's not working anymore because it's based on stcrachx (use Flash plugin).
Code.org and Tynker have less block. I think they use a different API for communicate with Code Connect.
I need to test them :)1 -
Ah yes, for Scratch that makes sense. The plugin has been deleted, and code connect just didn't update to remove the button.
I'm going to test the new version, I'll write if I find anything else
Thanks again! :)
