Update 5/20: We're still actively investigating this issue. Thank you for your patience.

I've pinned this thread since we're seeing similar reports from several users. With that said, our team hasn't been able to do this with various M1 or non M1 Macs across Big Sur or Monterey.

The more info you all can provide about what other possible apps or services that could be blocking Minecraft: Education Edition would really help. That way we can look for overlapping trends. We'll continue to dig into this on our end as well.

Hi there Joshua Crofts. I'm sorry to hear about the trouble with Minecraft: Education Edition loading correctly. In this case we have a few steps that might help:

    • Update to the most recent version of MacOS - which at this time looks to be 12.2.1
    • The most recent update for MacOS's version of Minecraft: Education Edition is 1.17.32. To access this you can follow the steps here: Mac Update Process – MEE (minecraft.net)

Please let me know if these steps help!

    Thanks Andrew,

I will try this and see how we go with our testing. It is an odd problem as there is about 70% of students whose devices it works with and 30% it doesn't even though they are all the same versions not everything.

I am having the same issue on our 30 M1 Macbooks. All are on current version of MCE. We are on MacOS 11.6.1 (My district IT has not approved the most current version of MacOS yet).  MCE works on my non-M! Macbooks running the same MacOS.

I am having zero problems with the M1 chip and MCEE. Can you share an error log?

I am trying to log in with my account, but after entering my login info, the program won't load.

I am using an M1 Chip Macbook Air with the macOS Monterey Version 12.3.1 and the latest version of the Minecraft.

    I am very frustrated.

Midory Imai Joshua Crofts For someone having this issue, would you be able to test if the issue persists on the Beta (test a few additional launches if it does seem to work, just in case): https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/4407483028116

  • I've tried the Beta here (launched several times from GUI and console) and it still crashes/stalls at the same point. The support guide says "uninstall completely", what does this mean?

I've tried the Beta version and it worked once, but it got stuck on the first screen the second time I tried using it.

I'm having the same issue but this time on a MacBook Pro M1 Pro on macOS Ventura 13.0, it just freezes on me after like 3 seconds. But it used to work before I updated to version 1.17.32 and I also tried it on beta version 1.18.10.04. An easy option is to code a new version just for Apple Silicon that would solve all the problems.

  • Can confirm - not working on Ventura - most current Release (1.17) and Beta versions (1.18.30.0)

  • don't worry it just resets the mods it won't affect anything

I have found a solution, folks. I deleted by GB till I had like 90 Gb left. I think storage might be the issue.

Yeah, I can't play Minecraft I am still getting the error. Its been a few months have you guys found a fix yet or is this still broken?

One potential fix is to check any content filters that are in place. Mac users have had to clear up any interruptions in communication through content filters. They have also had to add all of our URLs to the allow list and add our app as a trusted source on any firewall that is in place. I hope that helps.

We've seen this issue return with 1.18.32.0 and 1.18.42.0 for M1 users who have upgraded to Ventura. Same scenario as before!

I'm running Monterey and still can't use Minecraft. It freezes right after the login screen. The images and text are also blurry.

I have not seen any issues on M1 with OS12 or OS13. Sorry that people are having trouble! Any chance there is some management software on the computers getting in the way?

I will say thank you for upgrading your OS builds. Try rolling back your OS version though to an earlier version of it and see if those changes anything. (An older version of Ventura)

I'm having the same problems on an M1 running Monterey 12.6.1
but found that it does run without problems if I boot my mac in Safe Boot Mode.
I'll try and see if I can find what might be the cause.
I am not an expert though and don't really know how to do this, so it will be trial and error.

    [update]
I uninstalled my firewall, disabled all thirdParty launchAgents & launchDeamons, removed thirdParty audio and video components.
    But it still freezes.
v17 doesn't freeze but crashes when I create a world.
Main difference I see is that v18 uses the HttpClient.Framework
Maybe something gets blocked? Not sure what the difference is in network between normal and safe boot mode.

I'm having same issue that the screen is freezed and non-clickable on MacBook Air (M1, 2020) with MacOS Big Sur 11.6.6(20G624) and MEE 1.18.42.0. My system admin has not approved newer version of MacOS yet.

Having the same issue on my M1 Macbook Pro on MacOS Monterey (12.6.1). And I have over 418gb free, so it's not a storage issue. It definitely seems M1-specific as none of the Intel-based iMacs or Macbook Airs in my lab have the problem.

I'm still having the same issue on a MacBook Pro (M1, 2020) running Monterey (12.2.1). It shows the login screen and it freezes. I have to force quit to close the application. Why is this happening only with Education Edition?

There seem to be some serious bugs that the MEE team has not been able to squash. I continually get the feeling that the team working on this is either understaffed or MEE simply isn't a priority for Microsoft. Well, it certainly is a priority for our students who are extremely disappointed right now. And as the instructor, I can't even run it on my computer to work with the few students who can actually use the program on their Chromebooks (issues there as well).

Overall, this has been a really poor experience. As school staff, we were very excited and planned lessons based on MEE. Unfortunately, we've had to scrap those lessons.

Please devote the time and resources needed to fix MEE, or simply discontinue the program.

I have captured a trace document with Instruments from xcode.
All last messages are network related.
Would it be helpful if I shared that with your developers?
I'm not sure if there is a privacy concern with just attaching it to this post.

I can also join to debug with xcode-command line, though my English skill is poor...
