Cannot connect to classroom mode

I am trying to use classroom mode with minecraft education. I have the classroom mode app installed and I can sign in, but once it gives me a code that starts with /connect and I try to input it into minecraft's chat, I get this error: "unknown command: wsserver please check that the command exists and you have permission to use it." Does anyone know what is going on?

  Hello, yes I do have the most recent version. I have followed that guide but get the error "unknown command: wsserver please check that the command exists and you have permission to use it." Do you know what that means?
