Minecraft not working on Mac OS X Monterey (12.1)
Hey all,
I recently updated my MacBookPro to OS X Monterey (v12.1) and ever since, MineCraft Education starts up, but hangs at startupscreen
I've tried to delete everything and reinstall it, but it keeps on bringing up the same problem. My Internet xs works fine and is also pretty fast, so…
Anyone got any resources or help for me? Thanks!

Hi Marc TEUSCH and Jozsef Pengo, I'm sorry to hear about the trouble connecting. In this case, make sure that Minecraft: Education Edition is allowlisted on your firewall software.

If things are still trouble, one possible solution you can try is to go into your Microsoft Teams app and sign in to the Office365 account you use there.
I find on my Mac that my multiple accounts across multiple platforms sometimes gets confused. When I sign in to Teams it seems to be the ticket. Good luck!

update to 1.17.32 and that should help

I am using 1.17.32, and it is freezing after ~3seconds of start. (the background animation stops, and the only way to close the app is Force Quit)

Andrew L the problem is not the connection, but the MineCraft Education Edition freezes on MacOS Monterey after start

And for me (and for other as I saw in other posts) this happens since the Monterey update of MacOS

Something is corrupted, then. Either need to reinstall OS or Minecraft or both!

Can you confirm that it should run on MacOS Monterey without any problem? It looks like that many Monterey users reported this freezing problem here
I tried to reinstall everything after removed folders from everywhere, the problem remains the same, app freezes after couple of seconds
was strange tho that it still remembered my onmicrosoft.com email address, no idea where that was stored

We have had a lot of users report this on Monterey. One workaround users have reported is to install the Beta client running 1.18 and that seems to help a lot.

Dominick thx for your advice! The docs says that we have to export our worlds before install 1.18 beta as it will be deleted. But I cannot export them as long as the previous install doesn't start. Any advice here?
I have a copy of the minecraftWorlds folder. Is that enough?

Same story here - we had a few affected users earlier this year and the problem seemed to go away. Now it's back, exactly like the other users in this thread. I've tried the beta as well with no luck.

That's the correct folder, Jozsef Pengo, to preserve your worlds.
James Williamson, anything else possibly haywire with your Mac OS? Have you tried reinstalling MinecraftEdu?
0 -
Bryan Sanders Only if it's also haywire with almost every other user I've come across with an M1 Mac :)
But yes, I've tried reinstalling several times on several different machines

I have not had any issues with any M1s. It cannot be that much bad luck.

Installed the beta, but still freezing after 2-3 seconds

1.18.30 beta is still freezing

I Have Mac OS X Monterrey 12.5, versions 1.17.32 and 1.18.31 beta are still freezing after 2 -3 seconds.

Same issue here: Mac OSX Monterey v12.6 with latest MC:EE v1.18.32.0
Freezing after ~3 seconds. Occasionally some background music still plays.
Reinstalled countless times, deleted anything and cleaned caches. No success.

This is normally due to an interruption in communication to our servers from the Mac devices. Our application will need to be added as a trusted source to any proxies or antivirus software that is installed. Our URLs were recently updated and will also need to be checked to make sure all have been allowed on content filters and firewalls.
URLs Used by Minecraft: Education Edition – Minecraft: Education Edition Support0 -
1. We have explicitly whitelisted all URLs used by Minecraft Education Edition for all macOS and iOS devices that are used for MEE in our MDM solution and our LAN as per previous post.
2. I have made sure to whitelist all incoming and outgoing connections MEE in the system firewall on macOS devices that are used for MEE.
We still experience huge connectivity issues. Users of iOS devices are stuck in "connecting" screen for many minutes just to receive "cannot connect to the world". Some users also get stuck at "searching for the world". Rarely, using connection codes helps.
After several minutes of gameplay (ranging from 3 to 10), some or all users are disconnected. In reality, we never achieve all our students connected to the server at any one time. The disruptions are so frequent they render MEE unusable to teach.

Hi, our school technician found a fix on another forum. We have Cisco AnyConnect installed to allow our teachers to remote in from home. Uninstalling Cisco AnyConnect works and stops the crashing on Macbook Pro M1 running Monterey.
