Unable to Install Minecraft Education Edition 1.21.91 - 'cohtml.WindowsDesktop.dll' Error
I am writing to report an issue we are encountering while trying to install Minecraft Education Edition version 1.21.91. Upon attempting installation, we receive an error message stating: "Cannot find 'cohtml.WindowsDesktop.dll' Please re-install this application."

We have confirmed that we are able to successfully install and run an older version, 1.21.10, without any issues. However, the problem consistently occurs with the newer 1.21.91 release.
This issue is affecting multiple computers within our club. All affected machines are running Windows 11 (x64 architecture). We have tried re-downloading the installer and restarting the systems, but the problem persists.
Could you please provide guidance on how to resolve this 'cohtml.WindowsDesktop.dll' error for version 1.21.91? Any assistance you can offer would be greatly appreciated as we are eager to utilize the latest features for our club activities.
Thank you for your time and support.

Hi Study Island,
I ran into this problem too, but tracked it down to the 1.21.9101 release not including some required VC++ runtimes.
Specifically, the installer includes the latest 2017 x86 VC Runtime, but this version also needs the latest 2015-2022 x86 runtimes *and* the x64 runtimes (if you have installed the x64 version of Minecraft EDU).
You can download these from https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/cpp/windows/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170

Hi Jez,
Thanks so much for this! I was having the exact same issue and this is incredibly helpful. I'll download the runtimes from that link and see if it fixes the problem. Really appreciate you tracking this down and sharing the solution!
Cheers
