World Building Tools?

I want to build a scale world map for an Age of Exploration activity. Are there tools to help do this or a suggested way to attack this?

  Jason Kries - That is a great idea. My scale planning has been on a much smaller scale - but I have planned it with spreadsheets and grid paper. For the consumer edition, I know that there are some tools (3rd party apps) that help with some of these type of tasks.
