Can you use a controller on minecraft education?

When ever I connect my PS4 controller to my pc and try to use it on Minecraft Education Edition it doesn't work. The controller is detected but none of the buttons work. So can sum tell me how to work this.

  but wait do we have to have a cord that is pluged into the computer inorder to use a controller?
