Summon NPC Not Working

I was looking through the Minecraft wiki for new ways to use NPCs.  I noticed that the wiki mentions the ability to summon NPCs with the /summon command.  However, when tested in game, this does not work.  Is there a solution to this or is it simply not possible yet?  Also NPCs don't seem to count as entities.  When you teleport all entities (/tp @e ~ ~ ~) it grabs all other entities in the area, but no NPCs.

  Hi Lindsay,
  
  I have also tried this without success. It seems like the Entity ID is not recognised by the command block. We have also raised this with the other Mentors who have been actively working to try and find a solution. No luck so far, but hopefully MS will pick this up and allow us to target named NPC's with commands and scripts.

  Thank you! I've been trying to use NPCs in creative ways, but using commands to move them has absolutely stumped me. Oh well. :(

  I would also like to see new NPC’s like policeman and firefighter.
