Minecraft Edu Edition blocks the use of custom-made skins because there is a chance that someone might make a rude or inappropriate skin that wouldn't be suitable in school. If MCEE allowed custom skins some students might try and distract the class or use the skins to misbehave. Therefore custom skins probably won't ever be allowed.

However, there is a way around it in introducing a new MCEE feature that allows teachers to approve or deny a student's custom skin before it shows up in lessons. That might be useful as there is certainly scope for an art or computer science lesson discussing Hex Values, pixel art, 3D nets, and ultimately creating skins.

If someone feels like this might be a good compromise they could make a post in the Requested Features forum.

I would like to see the students be able to create custom skins for their characters and blocks in the minecraft world. I think that would give them a more personal take on the game and help introduce some of the coding that is used to create the custom skins. This would also give the students a chance to create book reports or creations where they are part of the world.

I’ve watched that and followed it step by step but it doesn’t work when I do it. I think it’s the last step because it says place it in a library folder but because it’s an app it doesn’t have that folder on my computer?

Please be aware that Minecraft: Education Edition does not support custom skins, mods, or texture packs. This helps keep Minecraft: Education Edition stable, as many of these mods aren't designed for Education Edition. If you use any mods and the game crashes a uninstall might be necessary.

  • M C

I already know how to get skins in this version of Minecraft and would like to see the slim skins without the backsides of their arms and half the bottoms of their fists missing and don't really like the way you get them even if it is easy because honestly, having it built in would be better. Plus I would really like the character creator, the import section, the delete skin option, and the thing that asks whether you want your imported skin to be normal or slim like in bedrock edition. I mean we have waited years for this.

Custom skins are already possible. Check out this page for info on how to do so.

Keep in mind that you will need a computer or laptop to do this (you can still send the skin to an iPad afterward) and the site is not written with education edition in mind.

In the folder structure, ignore com.mojang and skin_packs, as those are only in standard bedrock edition. The my_skin_pack folder name is only an example and you can name the folder whatever you want. When you are finished with the skin pack, zip the my_skin_pack folder. This zipped folder should now show as being named “my_skin_pack.zip”. If it doesn’t, go into your computer settings and turn on “show file extensions”. Now rename the zipped folder to “my_skin_pack.mcpack”. Your computer might warn you that the file can corrupt. It won’t.

If the game is on that computer: simply double click the file and it’ll automatically import

If the game is on an iPad: Upload the file to google drive, open google drive on the iPad, tap the file, tap the three dots in the top-right corner, choose “open in”, choose Minecraft.

Hi - old thread but if you search YouTube there is a video that shows how to create skin packs for Minecraft EDU.  it works well enough that I personally don't see the need to add it as a native feature.

I created 2 skin packs for my students and one for my teachers.  I was sure to add a diverse group of skins.  The skins are added to each client by opening the ".mcpack" file.  Students can even add the skins on Chromebooks (I have not tested that yet, but supposedly it works).  If anyone needs help with that, @me!
