Why is it that I can log onto M:EE on one computer, but another computer and laptop have a message that says----We can't connect to the server you need right now. Check your network connection or try this again later. I can also log on from IPads
(I am in a computer lab)

Hello,
If you are on Windows 10 1703 or earlier you will need to use the desktop download located at the bottom of the page here: https://education.minecraft.net/get-started/download/

Hi Theresa!
It took me close to a month to completely sort this out in my school, as I had assumed that all of our machines would be running the same version of Windows 10. In reality, there were at least 3 different versions!
The pushed out auto-update from M:EE version 1.7.x to 1.9.x in April first updated on my host machine -- and continued to run, unnoticed, because that machine was running W10 1803. Of course the student machines could not connect to it because they were running the older version (Problem 1). However, as soon as the auto update took place on the student machines (most running W10 1607) that updated installation of M:EE was suddenly borked on all the student machines, with students receiving the "We cannot connect ..." message (Problem 2). As I then attempted to uninstall the previous version using the provided uninstaller (Thanks, Kyle!) I then discovered that some machines were running W10 1803, some had W10 1709, and that most were running W10 1607 (Problem 3).
The solution required that I:
a) determine which version of W10 was running on each machine.
b) uninstall the auto-updating version from machines running 1607 (I found that the multi-profile uninstaller did not work consistently for our setups -- even a combination of the regular uninstaller and the powershell uninstaller managed to get the older version off the machine while I was logged in, but not from student profiles, so I had to repeat the process again for each student login!!!)
c) install and create shortcuts for the desktop version while logged in (along with an entry in each machine for the host) -- and then re-create the shortcut and host server entry for each student once they had logged in.
Of course all of this would be easier to replicate and automate with support from the IT department, but most of this was done as I was trying to get it sorted out so we could continue our project. (I've been using Minecraft with my students for six years now.)
I describe this for you so that you can see the effort required to get things updated. Ideally, Microsoft/Mojang will avoid pushing out updates to M:EE (especially automated ones) in mid-year going forward. School boards typically only have time to set-up machines at most once per year -- pushing out changes in mid-year is really awkward! You can read the details from Minecraft Education in the post entitled "Transitioning to the desktop application for Minecraft: Education Edition" for a bit more background. It will provide a few of the necessary steps (and the link to the uninstaller that you will likely need) to complete the process.
Best wishes!
Andy
