Exporting worlds and Op status
Hi,
I launched my first world with about 50 students at my school today. I expected their to be some teething problems and most of the issues I could fix up and quickly export an updated version. However, two issues remained which I'd love to fix up before tomorrow's lesson.
I set gamemode to adventure both in settings and in a command block under a pressure plate at spawn.
1) They would spawn at the exact location of the plate. My understanding was that in Adventure mode players are supposed to land at the exact location
2) and this was the main issue, students had permissions to change gamemode to creative which obviously meant they could they could complete bypass obstacles they found too challenging.
I had each student play single player and the setting is that students join as member. However because they all played in their own world I wondered if this makes them a host and grants them higher ops.
Anyway I would love to make it so that they can't use commands. Thanks

Hello Toby,
Great questions.
- You can actually set the spawn point using a command: https://www.digminecraft.com/getting_started/how_to_set_spawn_point.php
- If a student is the host of their world then yes they can have operator permissions. If you as a teacher host the world you can edit their permissions as you see fit.

Hi Kyle,
I had already set the spawnpoint using /setworldspawn command but the players are not spawning on the exact spot despite the world being set to adventure. I have to tell them all to walk over the pressure plate which then set everything up for me.
However this is not the biggest issue. I'm responsible for teaching 400 students and 30 staff how to effectively use Minecraft Education across the curriculum. I can't host 300 students or even 25 students at one time because of fps lag. I am also creating the world to be used as a single player environment for many tasks and at most 4 players for other tasks. However I don;'t want any student to have the ability to use commands because they just change mode to Creative and cheat.
I have had 50 students working in the world separately by sharing the export but each student is able to cheat. I have to spend my time roaming around to make sure they all have the hearts on showing and as soon as i look away the will teleport or fly over an obstacle rather than complete the task. If I can't stop this happening then that is severe limitation on the way I can use Minecraft in the classroom..Also I want them to be able to use the export when i'm not there. Is there really know way to set a world to Adventure mode to be played by a single player without that player having the ability to change gamemode or use commands?

Hum, I wonder if a repeating command block could be set up (you would need to make sure that it has an exception for YOU as the teacher) that would automatically keep setting gamemode back. Is it possible to deop the host of a world? I don't know.
Perhaps setting the spawnpoint radius to 0 and make sure worldspawn is set right at the desired location.
This link might give some helpful methods for classroom management https://youtu.be/RICIIkuBLj4
That video recommends setting the world spawn in a "jail" and if you were to put the start point there on some block that will set the worldbuilder ability to false and then provide a teleport out to your game starting location, that might help some. But again, if the host has the ability to be an op then it may always be possible for them to cheat?
