switching gamemodes
I have built a world in creative mode for students. Under an area I want them to use for farming I placed allow blocks. When I switch to adventure mode I am place blocks anywhere, cannot destroy blocks anywhere and the allow blocks seem to make no difference at all. What is going on?

Hello Toby,
This is most likely because you have Operator permissions as a teacher and host of the world. Feel free to submit a request if this does not solve the issue.

Thanks Kyle, that makes sense. Is there an easy way that I can test my world from the point of view of a student playing in adventure.and switch back and forth between being a host in creative and being a student in adventure? I was hoping that toggling gamemode would do the trick but obviously not.

Hi Toby,
If you are on version 1.12 you can quickly toggle the settings to make yourself a member and put the game in adventure mode from the pause screen.

Hi Kyle,
I'm still having problems. In fact I have logged into another computer with a student account. I have made sure that both computers are running 1.12. This is what I get :
World : Creative Student can do everything as expected
World Adventure : Student cannot build or break anything as expected but on allow blocks student can build but not break at all. He can place grass and use hoe but can't break any blocks. The wiki says that allow blocks allow placing and breaking of blocks.
Any ideas?

Sorry to double post but this info might help. I have tried survival game mode too and the student still can't break blocks. He can place blocks anywhere now but can't break anything.I don't have immutable world on btw.

OK please feel free to close this thread. In the process of making this world over many weeks on a steep learning curve I had changed different gamerules to suit particular tasks as I worked on them and lacked a basic understanding of the potential consequences down the track, especially when I'd forgotten these changes ;p
It all makes sense now and everything is working as it should.
I appreciate your help and I learned a few things from your replies and testing things out. Thanks.
