It won't let me join worlds

When I try to join a friend's world I get "it is not possible to connect to the world" I am on Mac and my friend is on Windows I don't know if it is not possible between different platforms but I hope you can help me

  Hey there!

  Sorry to hear you are running into some issues. Has this happened since the update and previously it worked fine? Do you see any popups when launching that ask you to "Always Allow" something? If you do, click "Always Allow" then let me know if the issue persists.

  I've clicked on the "always allow" button but yet it still persists?
