Cannot join multiplayer
Whenever me or my friend try to join each other, we get this is there a specific reason as to why this is happening?
-
Hey Nathan,
This can be caused by a few things. Are you able to join other users worlds? Are others able to join your worlds?
Here are a few things to try:
- Make sure that your game is up-to-date
- Try to sign out of your account from the game and sign back in
- Try to connect your device to a different network connection such as a hotspot
- If the above steps don’t work, try reinstalling Minecraft Education
Let me know what you find out

My game is updated to 1.20, I have signed in and out multiple times, I've tried on like 5 different networks and I've reinstalled it 3 times. is there anything else I could try to do?

Hey Nathan,
Do you and your friend belong to the same school/organization?
Also, are you using school managed devices or personal devices?
What is the make/model of your devices?0 -
Yes, we both go to school at the same school. We are using our school laptops which have some administrator operated parts, for example we can't access Microsoft Store but that is about it. Then our devices are Lenovo, they are the "Lenovo 300w Gen 3" and I think they are one of the most recent models by Lenovo, but I don't know for sure, and they are updated to Windows 11. I was be able to join multiplayer last year but I can't now, but one of my friends was able to join one of his friends or his friend joined him, I don't know the exact story of it, but he was able to play multiplayer at school. Could it be something on your end?

Hey Nathan,
It looks like the processor on your device is a bit under our minimum specs, but there could be other causes. Are your friends that are able to connect using the same device as you? Are you able to connect to or host worlds with other users?

Ok, but it worked last year even when we had lower "level" laptops, so I don't know how that could be the problem. Everyone at my school has the same laptops, so yes, they were using the same device. They weren't using my exact laptop, but they were using the same version. I haven't been able to try and join any other people, because I'm only able to in my second hour, so I've only been able to in second hour.

Hey Nathan,
The latest update of Minecraft Education significantly increased the processing demands of multiplayer games. This has been something we have been investigating but is affecting many users with lower spec devices for the time being. That said, I would like to reiterate that this may not be your issue. There could be something else going on here. Since your device is school managed and other users are able to join multi-player games, I would suggest reaching out to your IT department for assistance with this issue, as it could be a matter of just having a blocked connection/port.
