"Minecraft Education isn't Responding" after 1.20.12 update
Hello,
Some of our users are experiencing an issue with EE on chromeOS after the 1.20.12 update where randomly while using it, the app will freeze and trigger a generic "Minecraft Education isn't responding" error.
If the user clicks wait, it keeps working normally however the generic error window keeps popping up randomly while the app is in use. It does seem to occur more often on app load screens or menu screens than anywhere else, but it has popped up while playing the game also.
The user has updated to the latest stable crOS platform, minecraft itself has no updates, the device has been completely wiped & restored and the app reinstalled - I am at this stage wondering if it is an issue with the app itself.

Hey there,
Sorry to hear you are running into some issues.
Can you share the specs on the devices that are not working?
Can you share the specs on the devices it is working on?
Can you please provide a screenshot of the issue (without any personal info?
Has it worked fine prior to 1.20?

Hey. How about I pick up on this post? The same thing is happening to my classmates and I ever since 1.20, as far as I can remember. Nothing of the sort happened before 1.20, and It's happening on Chrome OS. I've attached a fair few screenshots, too, to show just how many times it does this when just trying to get into a single world! This error most commonly seems to occur when starting the game up and when exiting the pause menu. (If I go into the pause menu, nothing happens. Go into settings, or whatever, nothing. When I exit the secondary menu, however, on the original pause menu, the game will freeze and take 5-10 seconds before coming up with the error message.) The error will come up constantly at random times, and won't go away until the "Wait" button is pressed, which will cause the game to take multiple seconds before continuing just fine. The game doesn't crash or anything, but the message can do a lot of harm when doing something you can't just pause. (Fighting, flying, ect.) It makes the game mostly not worth playing, as it happens every 30 seconds to a minute, minimum. Thanks for the help, if I don't get a reply I'll make an entirely new post with similar details. Edit: Forgot to mention the specs I don't know a specific device it DOES work on, but the device there seems to be trouble with is a Lenovo 300e Chromebook Gen 3.

Hey Flynn,
thanks for the screenshots. Could you share the specs and or the make/model of your device so I can investigate a bit further into your issue?

Yes. My bad. It seems I had no idea what specs were. Apologies, here they are. If you need me to press expand on any of the thingamibobs, I can do that. Also note that any Crostini or Linux things aren't the problem, as many of my classmates have the exact same issue without any of that. The MTM on the back sticker is: "82JA000BAU". Thanks for the help.

Hey there,
Looks like a Lenovo 300e Chromebook Gen 3 you got there. It does not look like the Celeron quite meets min specs from here - https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360047556591-System-Requirements , along with some other aspects of the device, which could be why you are running into issues.

Sorry for the late reply, but that explains a lot. Is there any kind of way to stop the error message from disrupting the gameplay? Or maybe another solution?

Hey there,
No problem, and I do not believe there is a way to stop the error message as it seems to be a device spec issue.
0 -
That's okay then. I'm just confused as to why it's happening only now. It never happened until the update. Did the system requirements get bumped up with the 1.20 update? Otherwise I hope it could be fixed at some point in the future.

Hi Flynn,
As our games grows and features are added, unfortunately so do our required specifications for our game.
I know this may be less than ideal, but this is often the price for progress. With that said, our developers are working hard to minimize this affect on our game and maximize our players accessibility.

Hi my game works fine until I start in a specific world i made where if i look or move too fast the game just closes itself out I've tried to uninstall the game and reinstall it but the same thing occurs. I used to be able to play this exact world as much as I wanted but after the 1.20.12 update it stopped working properly is there any fix to this issue?

Hey Jonathon,
Do you by chance know what version this world was created in?0 -
tell us how we can fix it pls

Hey there Vicktoria,
Sorry to hear you are running into some issues as well.
Just had a few questions to help us support you further:
1 - What device make / model and OS version are you on when you got this error?
2- Are you on the latest version of Minecraft Education?
3- Is this a home network or school network?
4- Is this a commercial account or school managed account?

Why does Minecraft EDU have so many issues on a Chromebook all of a sudden? My Chromebook can't seem to support it anymore, without an error message every 10-15 seconds (even when the app is working fine). And if anything else is open on my device, even the Play Store or a single Chrome tab, it usually won't make it past the red Mojang screen. It's not an old Chromebook, either - it's less than two years old. What's even weirder is my little sister, who is using a Chromebook with nearly eight years to its name (that's past its last update, actually), seems to have no problems whatsoever.
I have tried everything - power cycles, updating EDU, updating my Chromebook, all of the troubleshooting, clearing out storage - everything.
I really like EDU. It's (usually) exactly like the normal game, but free and available through my school. But this is making me want to export my good worlds and delete the entire app forever (or until this bug is fixed). Please help, and save Minecraft!

Hi Danny,
I would like to see if you could explain to me how this is a spec issue if the game is running fine and the only thing interfering is the error message. I don't think this is related to specs more so versions of chromeOS, but then again I very well could be wrong and would be open to any information that could help me. Kindest regards.

Hey there,
That is what it seems like at first guess, though it would be interesting to see if updating OS would have a positive effect on the issue as well.

UPDATE: #2 IS NOW SOME WHAT UNLIKELY.
Hello, I would like to enlighten you all about something I discovered on this topic. I found a (few) way to stop it from sending you the "Not Responding" system notification. I will list all the reasons I think it may have stopped for me.
- Restarting and/or Updating: I discovered restarting/updating your Chromebook would stop the notifications.
- Not having tabs using high memory or 1 GB combined in tabs. (i.e I either have no tabs or tabs under or near 100MB(Able to be seen by hovering over a tab)). I think the overall reason for this is because Minecraft Edu is too much for the CPU to handle WITH high-memory-tabs.
That said, those worked for ME so, (I use a Lenovo 300e Gen2), I'm guessing it should work for others on the same device. (May or may not work for Lenovo 300e Gen3). Devs, correct me if I'm spreading misinformation.
Thank you!
