Administration of licenses in Minecraft Education
Hello,
I am a student at the University of Potsdam, Germany. As part of a part-time job at the Hasso Plattner Institute, Germany, my colleagues and I would like to run an introductory hardware course for pupils and for this we would like to use Minecraft Education. Since we read that all administration, especially licensing, goes through the IT admin, we are wondering if we as students can purchase the licenses and thus act as IT admins or if this has to be done through the IT admins of our university.
Thank you very much in advance!
Best wishes

Hey there!
Just a couple things -
- Please know that all licenses will need to be on the same domain in order to play multiplayer together. If the students all purchase individually, they will not be on the same domain and thus not be able to do multiplayer together.
- There are two different means of purchasing:
If you are purchasing commercially please follow this guide: https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360061369812-Purchase-Commercial-Licenses
If you are purchasing for a school please follow this guide: https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360059957051-Purchase-Academic-Licenses-Directly
If there are blockers in your way to purchase academically (as you are correct and IT admin of the university would need to do the purchasing), you can purchase as many licenses as there are students commercially from the same domain, then hand out the usernames and logins to those participating. Also, please keep in mind a maximum of 40 users can join a multiplayer game together (and this with a very juicy device).
- Another option could be worth exploring would be pitching the idea to your University IT Admins, perhaps they would be willing to support this depending on how many licenses are needed.
Hope that helps!
