Bug Reports update 1.20.12
Since There is no General Bug Reports Post started yet. I'll start one here.
Looking for Bugs or glitches people notice about the 1.20.12 update. Or even just comments about things that are different that were not explained in the article
https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/16763242057748-What-s-new-in-the-Trails-Tales-Update-v1-20-12-
For instance, the article does say that there have been changes to the Agent
- The agent now has no range restrictions. It can now move and build far away from the player
- The agent now has an animation for unsuccessful actions
- The agent now chooses which item to detect or interact with in a “line of sight” in the direction the code specified, up to 1 block away.
But it didn't tell me that you no longer simply press c to spawn your agent and open the code builder.
Now you have to enter
/code
in chat to open the code builder interface. This is actually a great thing since it means far fewer agents will be accidentally spawned by the students just hitting c. But if you were used to simply hitting c and didn't know about the change, it could be pretty frustrating when trying to test out the agents new functionality.

When I try opening the education Minecraft it always says I need to sign in and I'm have no service/connection even though I'm signed in. How do I fix this?.

Very nice job, Aleece!
I have informed our developers of your findings.

Hey Harman,
If this started happening after the update, it is likely you have two versions of Minecraft Education installed on your device and you will need to uninstall the older version.

I can still open the code builder by pushing C. I sometimes find that upgrading remapped my code builder trigger key, though. Aleece Landis, have you checked your key settings?
What I am finding is that while Multiplayer is working, my students and I can't see each others' custom skins. Our skins show to us in OUR view, but everyone else sees us as Steve or Alex.Yes, I know the official line is that custom skins are not supported. But we all now how much Minecraft avatars are tied into students' sense of identity, and the club worked really hard on them. This isn't a new feature request, this is something that did work and now doesn't. And we put a lot of work into the Museum skin pack based on museum objects, and I'd hate to have to pull it from museum programs. If there's a way to fix this, I'd love to know.
F5 screenshots from my perspective and my student's.ETA:
It's not just Steve, it's throwing up random default skins. I've got my regular skin on, but she's seeing Zuri now, which isn't even in any of the EDU skin options.0 -
Hey,
Whenever I log into Minecraft Education (1.20.12), it says to check my connection when my Wi-Fi is fine. I can't delete the older version (1.19.53) either.

never mind, I fixed it
you just delete 1.20.1200.0 ()windows()

Update, yes as Sarah Elliott mentioned. Apparently my code builder key was unassigned.
I'm actually a little disappointed it isn't a thing now as I hate when the kids are constantly accidentally summoning the agent when they accidentally hit c.
And yes, I too will be rather upset if student skins are no longer visible to others in game. I hope that can get fixed in the next patch.0 -
Hosting no longer works with the new update. Whether you try to join a world or even sometimes press the host button, you get this error:
Once I hosted this and it allowed someone to join for a bit before crashing on the host's screen with the same message. I restarted and this time students could even join for a little bit, it kept crashing. Not even the ok button worked under the message.
The students with computers on the previous version that had not yet auto-updated worked fine together. Seems like a bug only with this version.

I think I met the same problem as Harman. How can I uninstall the older version?
0 -
Hi Taoge,
That depends on what kind of device you are using. If you are using a Windows PC, you can open 'apps & features', select the older version Minecraft Education, and click uninstall.
If you are not using a PC, what type of device are you using?

We have a Minecraft Education license purchased at school. We last used Minecraft in June. Now, when we try to log in, Minecraft gives us information that our license has expired and this is not true because it was purchased for a year in February 2023, so it should work until February 2024. The school administrator in his view sees an active license for me and my students. What could be the problem?

Hey there Joanna,
Thanks for the screenshot. You can have your school IT admin reach out to us directly here if you would like:
https://educommunity.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/requests/new
Then we can continue troubleshooting the backend.

The problem you describe is what I experienced when I wound up with two different installs on the same computer. If you used to install the desktop app and then wind up going to the Microsoft store, it does not automatically remove the old version. How I dealt with it on my computer was to go back Uninstall BOTH version (in the add/remove programs there may be multiple Minecraft Education Edition icons, some may claim they are no longer installed and can't be uninstalled, I just went through and told it to uninstall each to make sure I got them all. Then go back and install the one you normally use.)

I've seen that error come up regularly in the past two updates too. I find It often helps to simply restart minecraft after leaving a world before joining or starting a new one. This may be especially true if your internet connection is not super stable. Hosting machines connected by a good wire to a strong internet connection also tend to minimize this problem.0 -
I just called the company we bought the licenses from and they reset our access. The administrator reconnected the licenses and now everything works. We still don't know what was the cause, but the most important thing is that everything works. Regards and thank you for your answer.

Underwater TNT bug! My student crafted some underwater TNT to help clear out our underwater cave build, and when crafted, the underwater TNT looks like regular TNT. It still explodes underwater, but if you put it down and middle click it, it puts regular TNT into the hotbar.

Hey Sarah!
Thanks for the bug report!
What device make/model were they on?
I was unable to replicate the looks like regular TNT portion. I was able to replicate the middle click gives regular TNT portion. I will let the test team know.

What happens if you hold control while middle clicking the underwater TNT? Is this a situation of it being data on the TNT making it able to explode underwater?
Like if you middle click a chest you just get the chest but if you middle click while holding control you get the chest with all it's data (contents.)0 -
I tested on Windows 10 pc and It gave me underwater TNT when I crafted it.
But when I tried to pick it back up it gave me regular TNT even if I held control while I middle clicked the block.
Hum, I do notice that underwater TNT is NOT available in the Creative menu, I wonder if that has something to do with it?0 -
Hey Aleece!
All good suggestions! The balloons and other chemistry items are not found in the creative menu as well, absolutely something worth testing.

Danny She's on an Acer laptop running Windows 10. CTRL middle click is still giving regular TNT.
We've also run into a new issue. Bone meal isn't working on underwater blocks. We can place seagrass and kelp and coral manually, but this area has been spammed with bone meal and is giving nothing. Same thing happened to the gravel and sand around the shipwreck -- we had to place everything manually. I've even run this command to make sure it's all source and not flowing water. (It does work on surface blocks)
/fill ~-10 ~-10 ~-10 ~20 ~20 ~20 water replace waterConsidering we're trying to naturalize a massive underwater cave, this is a big one for us.,,,

I'm also seeing the same wrong colour for underwater TNT, but only in this world. She's confirmed than in another world on her device, it works normally. Could it be some of the resource packs interfering?
0 -
Hey Sarah,
Thanks for the added info. This is very likely the case. Any resource packs or modpacks may be interfering with the other items. Especially as I was not able to reproduce the bonemeal bug on my end either.

It makes sense. I’ve tried to replicate this, but it just uses the underwater TNT texture. The thing is that the texture stays the same even if I DO have packs on.

And I will post my abilities to cause a strange glitch.
So I was excited to hear about the agent not needing to stay within "range" of the player. So I decided to test this out by setting the agent to mine and then I moved the player fairly far away to see if the agent would continue the program even with the player at a distance. Yay it worked. Part of this mine program has the agent return to the player to unload the blocks and items collected every so often.
I decided to really mess it up though. I left the Agent doing it's mine program and I took that "Host" player to the nether box (Where I tend to put the Host on survival worlds to not interfere with student players sleeping through the night.)
This is kinda funny,
The agent teleported to the nether with me. But it didn't just teleport, apparently it tripled.
One of them just froze there looking at me. Another was moving as if it was still trying to carry out it's program. And a 3rd actually teleported to me and was continuing to break blocks that it could.
I had to run /remove @c Three times before there was no agent anymore.
So, if you have summoned your agent, don't leave the dimension, it seems to be causing some Major Glitch.
I need to do more testing to see how extensive the Glitch is.-1
