Minecraft Edu disappears from lab computers, then cannot be reinstalled/updated
As per thread title: We install Minecraft Edu (together with Code Ccnnection and Classroom mode). On most of the desktops (Windows 10) Minecraft Education is removed (without any notice) and then the upgrade fails to install (We see the new version 1.19.52 in "Microsoft Studios")
The installation fails with "minecraft.adalserver.exe is not marked for installation". We cannot redeploy via GP or manually.
1. How do we fix this given we have about 30 desktops that have had the installation broken by Microsoft?
2. How do we stop Microsoft from repeatedly deleting our installed software?
Any advice appreciated!

Hi David Searle,
I seem to remember our board having issues with the deployment in the past of an update as well, although we were using SCCM.
I found if we reinstalled the OS, the new deployment would work. So, probably some leftover folders and registry items causing the issue. It was easier and quicker to mass wipe and reinstall the affected systems rather than go digging.

Hi Dani Noble,
Thanks for taking the time to post a reply. Sadly, it does seem to be more logical to reimage the entire lab than waste even more time attempting to clean broken installations due to Microsoft's apparent incompetence.
Before we go down that path it would be useful to figure out how to block the attempted and failed updates to the installed software, to prevent a repeat of the issue.
(Deployed Education software should not be attempting to update itself, we deploy a fixed version, and update (successfully!) when we schedule the change. Microsoft randomly deleting deployed software, failing to download and install the new version, and in the process breaking the installtion requiring a complete reinstall of Windows and all other managed installations is frustrating, and realistically should never happen.)

No problem at all.
Minecraft Education is based on Bedrock edition which updates automatically from the client, so I suspect ME is using the same method. It would be useful to know if we could block this. Penny would any of your team know if this is possible and what we would need to block?

Hey Dani Noble,
We have info surrounding how to enable and disable auto update per OS here: Update to a New Version of Minecraft Education – Minecraft Education
Let me know if there's any other specific questions you have after reading it :)0 -
Hi Justin, thanks for the link!
That should be fairly easy to add to a Group Policy.
