1.19.52 Hosting World does not work
I host a classroom and no one can connect using join codes after updating to 1.19.52. We have a shared world we've been working on for months. I can load it myself, but no one can join. They timeout on joining. Also, as the host, once I close and click Save & Exit, the game sits on the screen that says do not close this while saving. It never finished. The computer has to be restarted each time EDU is run.

Hey there!
Sorry to hear you are running into some issues not being able to join.
Just had a few questions to help us support you further:
Are you all on a commercial account or a school managed account?
Are you all on a commercial or school managed device?
Are you all on the most recent version of Minecraft Education? It will just take one that is not on the exact same version as the others to cause issues, so I would recommend double checking to rule that out, especially for the groups that cannot join at all.
Can you post the error screenshot if there is one, when that can't join (leaving out personal info)?
Anything at all different you notice about the devices for those that can join and those that cannot?
Thanks!

I am having the same issues, no issues at all until updating to 1.19
We have been working on a hosted world with weekly challenges, now most of my students get timeouts when trying to login, or if they do get logged in the game quickly becomes unplayable due to lag and freezing. Any news on a fix for this?

So glad I found this thread, I have been tearing my hair out, I work in three different schools, but they all have the same Wifi Configuration which is provided by county. Likewise, I have been using Education in schools for many years without the levels of problems we're having here. I can't click the links in the opening message, but I can perhaps provide a lot of information about failed connections if it will help? Roll on version 1.20!!

To add more context, I work in three separate schools, we connect on a variety of different machines and devices. I usually host from my MacBook Air M1 and children rarely have a problem connecting. All of the three schools use the same locally configured county wifi, which has never caused an issue.
I have no problems in a school where all of the devices connecting to a session are iPads. (Edit - remembered these are running v1.18 I have two installs on my Mac, I use V1.18 in that school ).
I have issues when certain players connect to a game, meaning one pupil/device will repeatedly cause issues for other players.
Players complain of everyone 'freezing'. This is most often remedied by players leaving the game and rejoining, frequently, sometimes that will fix the problem, otherwise I will need to log off completely, reboot my Mac and start a new session.
Players complain that blocks don't interact the way they ought, so smashing blocks results in the block disappearing (without any animation), but not getting collected.
Players are frequently having to disconnect and reconnect.
Gamers cannot connect at all, even having rebooted their device and logging in again. No error messages but the game just hangs.
Likewise, when players click save and exit, the game will hang and need force closing, which is different on each device. This might seem off topic, but also Chromebook users cannot even install the game (school sessions are managed, so game is installed EVERY new session), install gets to 39% and fails, I thought this was because of a Chromebook update from 111 to 112, but even after this, many devices are the same.

Hi all,
Has there been any update on the issues with students joining a world? I am going to have my students uninstall Minecraft, reinstall, and check for any OS updates and see what happens.
I'm so glad to see I wasn't the only one having this issue! Thank you all!

We have found that this issue will appear depending on the user's client versions. All users that connect to a world must be on the same version. If even one user connects to the world on 1.18 and the other users are on 1.19 the world will have lag issues, inventory issues, and disconnects.

Wait, you can use a Chromebook to play Minecraft Edu?
0 -
That is correct. Users can download Minecraft Education from the Google play store on Chromebooks.

We force installed the apps to the Chromebooks. Is there another way to make sure they all stay on the same version? Doesn't seem like you can version pin Minecraft Education in Google Admin Console.

Alan if you are willing, we can open a ticket and work with you to try and isolate this issue. In ticket form we can gather more in-depth information and provide items to try out.

Hi Dominick. Yeah, I'm happy to support where I can. Count me in.

Sounds good Alan. I will create that ticket now.

I've been following this thread like a hawk! I'm experiencing similar issues when hosting. I was able to host a world randomly without any issues one time last week. I haven't been able to since.
My Setup:
Hosting Worlds using my teacher laptop (Surface/PC) - connected to the school network (teacher-dedicated router)
Students Using Chromebooks (C733) - connected to the school network (student dedicated router)
All devices are running current Minecraft build.
Is there anything else I can check?

You can install Minecraft Education on Chromebooks Via the Google Play store. You can also have students check the Play Store to see if they have the latest version installed. This is a continuing issue that is from the latest Minecraft Education updates, none of this was happening before the 1.19... updates. I am seeing the issue continue even when making sure that every single student is on the same version. The game has some stability issues even when students can get logged in, which is hit and miss.

Just remembered, the iPads (I'm having success with) are running V1.18 I have both versions installed on my Mac and I use the older version with that school.
So issue is just still related to V1.19.52 still.

Hey folks,
Lots of great info here, but I am not sure I understand what solutions I have available at the moment. I just tested joining a hosted world from my Dell all-in-one Windows PC in our SmartLab using a student profile on a Chromebook, installed the game fresh and ensured that it was on the same version as the client on the desktop. The two computers could not connect to a multiplayer session together with either of them as the host.
What is confusing to me is that as recently as Monday afternoon I was able to host a multiplayer session and got part way through it before suddenly losing connection. I verified that all of the games were on the same version, and no one attempted join otherwise on a different version.
I reached out to our IT admin and our network provider and asked if there was any anomalous activity or if for some reason the whitelist had changed, and they said they did not notice anything.
So my question is why is this an intermittent issue and what steps can I take to at least attempt to troubleshoot it? At the moment I feel as if my only option is to tell my students that for the foreseeable future (possibly til the end of the school year) they cannot access multiplayer, which is terribly unfortunate as we tried rolling out Minecraft into multiple classrooms just this week with horrible results, and there are some groups that have unfinished projects they may not be able to work on unless this issue is resolved promptly. I will have to work with them to create new final projects, which represent the majority of their 4th quarter grade. Thanks for your work and attention, please let me know if there is anything effective that can be tried to resolve this issue.

We are experiencing issues when trying to connect to a locally hosted world. Users get Connection timed out when trying to connect to the world. See the attached picture. We had no issues before the updated version 1.19.52. Users are accessing via Chromebooks with the app being deployed from Google Admin Console.

Hey everyone!
If you feel comfortable, let us know if you'd like to help out. We can make a ticket for you to see if we can gather some packet captures and/or Fiddler traces to see if any content filters are blocking Minecraft Education for some reason.
Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for the patience.

Cheers Juli-Anne!
I made us a ticket, we can continue the conversation over there!

Hi there,
I would also like to help and I am happy to volunteer any information you need. We have effectively put the Minecraft activities in our school on hold until this is fixed.
Thanks,-B

Ok, interesting session in Minecraft club tonight. Pupil hosted a session from a Windows 10 device (new world), all machines working on 1.19.52, iPads and my Apple Mac M1 and session went really well, zero dropouts, freezes or disconnects, no one connected on Chromebook. From my experience I've only encountered the problems hosting on Chromebooks and Mac OS.
Not sure if this is useful, but I will try hosting using my windows machine next week.

That is indeed strange but great info Alan. Let us know if hosting on a different platform causes issues to appear. The Devs would be curious to hear about this and the devices details to try and repro it.

I created a ticket for you Benjamin and please look out for an update for that.

Oh there's problems on other platforms alright! (You saw my other post right?)
Hosting from Chrome v112.xxx is broken,
Hosting from Mac OS Ventura 13.3.1 is broken
Hosting from iPad v16.4.1 is broken too.
Just found it interesting that Windows 10 worked really well.
When your say send packet data, let me know how we can do that please as it's not something I'm familiar with, in fact any guide to send you useful information would likely be handy for all of us?

Thank you for providing that. To get a network capture you can use tools such as fiddler. The best scan is called a PCAP scan and would require 3rd party software as well. There are no "steps" we can provide since each tool and methods differ and the users should vet what software they want to use before installing anything on their device.

The most recent client update fixed multiplayer for us! Finally! Thank you all for your hard work!

Ok, sent a fiddler session file through to Dominick and had a note to say that from that file, they'd fixed some 'back end' issues. First session ran for less than 10 minutes before problems occurred.
Same network, same machines, same version 1.19.52 a week later, and we ran a 2 hour session with absolutely no problems. Absolutely brilliant session, just like the good old days. Fantastic work, thank you. No idea what you've done, but it appears to have fixed it for us using a Windows machine as host. Will test next on a Mac and hopefully get the same results. Hope it starts to get better for other users now too.

Penny We tried connecting the servers yesterday (5/15) on V19.52. Initially, we got 8 Chromebooks connected to the server, but the moment we tried to connect one more, we started losing the connections. After that, we could not have any Chromebook connected to the server for more than a minute or so. It was frustrating, to say the least with young students eagerly waiting to work on their world and we could not get them to stay in the world.

Here's what I've tested so far:
-
Windows 11 host: I can connect multiple Chromebook without problems. (tried with 20 chromebook)
- Chromebook host: Unable to connect, Timeout with other Chromebooks, but I can connect with a Windows PC.
Hope this can help solve the issue.
