    Hey there,

I apologize for the confusion here. Minecraft: Education does not support custom skins, mods, addons, or texture packs. This helps keep Minecraft: Education stable, as many of these mods aren't designed for Education.

Thank you for your response. I'm a bit confused about why Minecraft Education has a feature that allows you to install and use add-ons if it doesn't officially support them. We were able to use and host our own add-ons successfully with Minecraft Education on our university machines. It seems that Minecraft Education may require certain permissions for these add-ons to work, and it's possible that the school where we tried to use them didn't have the necessary permissions enabled on student machines. Otherwise, it doesn't make sense for Minecraft Education to have the ability to install add-ons at all, if what you are saying is true.

What Danny is saying is true. Minecraft Education does not support mods. Since our client is based off of Bedrock Edition that uses mods is why you are seeing what you are. Mods do not interact with Minecraft Education as it does with Bedrock and may cause issues with the client. With that said some users use mods and hopefully can help you.

    Hi Rokas Danevicius

I'm not sure there's a way to get around your school's blocking of the addons during hosting, but I have one thing you could try:

Export and share the world with the add on to your students and have them import the world on their devices. Then, host the world as you normally would and have them try to join. I'm hoping that the device would see that the add on has been used before, and not go looking to download them across the network.

  • Thank you for your responses Dominick and Danny. I was hoping to obtain some clarification regarding your statements that Minecraft Education does not support the installation and use of add-ons. I will need to communicate this information to my team, and therefore, it is essential that I understand the specifics.

Based on my research, Minecraft Education and Bedrock edition has the capability to install and use add-ons. This is evident from the fact that we were able to run our own custom add-ons on the platform, this includes hosting the world to other clients with the add-on and with no issues. There are also online sources from Microsoft that indicate both versions are capable of running add-ons, Minecraft Education on a limited capacity.

Therefore, when you mention that Minecraft Education does not support add-ons, could you please provide more detail on what you mean? Is it the case that your team is intentionally not disclosing this information due to safety concerns?

Additionally, thank you, Dani Noble, for your suggestion regarding the installation of add-ons separately on each student machine. We have already tried this approach, but it appears that while students can launch the add-ons on their individual worlds and can connect to the host world running the add-on, they cannot use or see the add-on them self's while connected to the host world. As a result, the add-on is not active on the student machines when they connect to the host world. Not sure if this approach is any different from what you have suggested but maybe we should try installing the actual worlds with the add-on on to each student machine like you mentioned?

No worries, I will try to explain. Minecraft Education is based off the Bedrock client so you will see features included that are not supported. This is because the Education version is more secure to protect students and does not support/blocks features that may cause issues. With that said, since it is based off the Bedrock version, you can use mods, but if you run into any issues, we may not be able to help you. It's one of those cases of use at your own risk. Mods can crash the client and cause world corruption.
