I am unable to get students to connect to the world I am hosting. We all have Minecraft Education but when they enter the code to join world, we get an error message saying the world is not active and cannot join.

  This sounds like it may be due to not being part of the same @domain/school. The other aspect is to have an IT specialist check the network for any communication blocks.
