Bonnie . You'll need to reach out to your school's IT Admin to have them investigate this issue. It is generally a sign that our new URL is not allowed through their firewall or content filter. FAQ: IT Admin Guide – Minecraft: Education Edition Support

I just had the P2P error for the first time today. I shut everything down. Rebooted everything. And then it was good to go again.

I've regularly seen the p2p error when I manually close a world and then try to open a new one.
I Usually do a full re-boot to get it to go away but I think sometimes It might go away just by closing minecraft and restarting it. (Just because on of the computers I use to host with is really slow and headless I don't like to have to reboot that machine too often since I then have to hook up a keyboard and monitor to it to get through the boot process before I can access it remotely, I will often try just restarting minecraft but more often that not, that just costs me the extra few minutes it takes to restart minecraft and trying to open the world again.)0 -
I am also unable to connect when I try to host, although all my other classmates can. I am worried that shutting it down will reset all of my work.

Bonnie . You'll need to have all of the URLs listed in the guide Justin posted allowed through the firewall, or many of the Minecraft Education services won't work. There is a lot of very good information in the IT Admin Guide that you can pass on to your tech support team about why these URLs need to be allow listed.
