Try Minecraft Education for free
Minecraft Education is available for anyone to try for free! There are two ways to experience Minecraft Education before purchasing a full license: Demo Lessons or our Free Trial.
Our Demo Lessons are available to all users to use without an account. The demo lesson allows you to explore a limited set of lessons before committing to a full purchase of licenses. It's a great way to get a feel for the program, how it runs, the education value that could be offered, and the general controls.
The free trial is available to users with an academically verified Microsoft Entra ID account, such as an Office 365 Education or Microsoft 365 Education account. The free trial offers full access to Minecraft Educations features for a limited number of sign ins. You can learn how to verify if your Microsoft 365 Tenant is Academically Verified by following the steps in this article: Purchase Academic Licenses Directly
You can also explore more details in our Learn to Play YouTube Series along with many other guides for using the app!
Technical requirements
Minecraft Education can be played on Chromebook, iPad, Mac, and PC. Before trying Minecraft Education, check the System Requirements article to ensure your device is supported.
About the demo lessons
If you're not in an academically verified Microsoft 365 Tenant or have run out of logins for the full trial you'll only be able to access our Demo Experience. The Demo Experience allows you to try Minecraft Education for free and without an account. You'll have unlimited access to a selection of lessons from Lesson Library, such as Hour of AI.
The Demo experience has limited functionality, including:
- Worlds and progress cannot be saved
- It is not possible to join or host a multiplayer game or join Dedicated Servers
- You cannot create or load custom worlds
Using the Demo Experience is a great way to decide if the program is a good fit for your school, organization, program, club or otherwise. If you decide you like the program, you can look into purchasing full licenses here: Purchasing Options for Minecraft Education Licenses

About the free trial
Academically verified Microsoft 365 Accounts can use the Free Trial experience. The free trial is fully functional and contains all the features of the paid version. The trial is compatible with Classroom Mode. For more information on these features, see the Get Started with Classroom Mode articles.
The trial is limited by the number of logins (25 for teachers with an Office 365 Education account and 10 for all other users) before a paid license is required to continue playing. Trial logins cannot be refreshed – if you have any issues, contact our support team right away so you don’t use all your trial logins! After your trial logins have been used, Minecraft Education is available to purchase. If you run out of sign ins and don't purchase any licenses, you'll be redirected to the Demo Lessons referenced above.
